Monte Cruz
Zugezogen Maskulin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Finanzsenator seit sieben Jahren
Naja geht so, eher weniger
The first verse of Zugezogen Maskulin's song Monte Cruz tells the story of a wealthy and powerful man named Hassan Mustermann, who is a financial senator in Germany for seven years. The lyrics describe his appearance, with a "glowing" mustache and glasses and a perfectly ironed shirt. On Sundays, he is watching Tatort, a popular crime show, when the noise of Latino-German gangs outside his house drives him crazy. He calls the police, but the next morning, he finds his tires slashed, and the "Spaniards" who live in the neighborhood mock him as he rides his bike. Despite his daughter Ayse receiving bouquets of roses, he refuses to let a "Spaniard" into his house, and he claims that all Spaniards are lazy and antisocial. The verse concludes with a reference to the idea that Germany is "shutting down" and facing decline.
The second verse shifts the perspective to the person speaking, a Spaniard living in Berlin's Kreuzberg neighborhood. The singer is tired of being assumed to be lazy, and he mocks the idea that he should eat tapas, living instead on "Uppers," or amphetamines. The singer boasts of having two master's degrees in graphics and donating plasma while also taking drugs. He sneers at the idea that Germans should feel sorry for the crisis that has affected the Spanish economy, saying that during the bombing of Guernica in 1937, the Germans did not care about the Spanish either. He concludes with a reference to Operation Kondor, a mission by South American right-wing dictatorships aimed at suppressing left-wing political movements in the 1970s.
