They released their first single, "Never Leave", on Double Denim Records on 7 November 2011, and played a BBC Radio 6 introducing session at Maida Vale for Steve Lamacq the same week. The band subsequently signed to Play It Again Sam. Their second single "We Should Be Swimming" was released in February 2012 and was Zane Lowe's Hottest Record In The World on his BBC Radio 1 show, on the 11 January 2012. The band also received features in the UK press, including a two page spread in Q (magazine),"New Band Of The Day" on the Guardian website & a mention in the Independent's "Music One's To Watch Lists: This millennium’s school yard brawl".
The band released their debut album "Language" on 14 May,2012 and supported Keane on their 2012 UK tour. They released their third single "Silver Tongue" in April 2012 which was once again made Zane Lowe's Hottest Record In The World on his BBC Radio 1 show.
The band unceremoniously split via facebook when their slick, emotional indie was met with an insouciant shrug on June 5, 2014. They released a final 10-track mini-album entitled Stutter on July 21, 2014. It is a collection of studio and home recordings the band "didn't want to fester on a hard drive somewhere". NME reported that 'To be fair, it’s glossy and cohesive for an outtakes record, but aside from the subtle, groove-laden title track, nothing here really competes for your attention. Now is the winter of their discontent.'

Heavy Rain
Zulu Winter Lyrics

()
I wanna have everything
I wanna throw flow and flake
And you could be my subject
Can I be the one at your back?
Can I be the one that spins you?
()
Cause all I want is to be the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
You must have been the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
You must have been the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
You must have been the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
()
Come with me, I'll slow it all
We can watch wings beat and float
I'll stretch the time together
Is it me that pushes you on?
A bigger? to be with you?
Or am I not all strong for bringing all this aim(?)
()
Cause all I want is to be the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
You must have been the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
You must have been the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
You must have been the heavy rain
Oh, mother let me be heavy rain
The song "Heavy Rain" by Zulu Winter expresses the desire to have a powerful and transformative impact on the world, much like heavy rain that nourishes and rejuvenates. The singer addresses their mother in a pleading tone, asking to be allowed to become heavy rain, perhaps alluding to the mother's own strength and influence in their life. The singer wants to have everything, to be able to flow and flake, and to be the force behind the positive transformation of others.
The lyrics also suggest a desire to be close to someone, possibly a love interest, and to lift them up. The singer asks if they can be the one at their back, spinning them around, and pushing them forward. They want to slow down time so they can savor the moments they have together. The lyrics also suggest that the singer is unsure if they have the strength to bring about the change they desire, but they are willing to try.
Overall, the song expresses a desire for growth, transformation, and closeness. The metaphor of heavy rain adds a sense of power and awe to these desires, emphasizing the singer's longing for something truly impactful.
