Zyklon is, according to Samoth, a play on the word "cyclone" and no relation to the nerve agent Zyklon B used by the Nazis. Despite Samoth being in a previous project called Zyklon-B along with Emperor member, Ihsahn, among others, the two bands are separate bands and played a different style of Metal.
All of the band's lyrics are written by ex-Emperor drummer Faust . Most of the lyrics revolve around themes like anti-religion, misanthropy, and philosophy.
Zyklon's debut album, entitled World ov Worms, was quite similar to that of Destructhor's band Myrkskog's album Deathmachine. The album is made up of extremely fast riffing and blast beats aided by the vocals of Daemon (of Limbonic Art). However, after this release, Zyklon changed. Myrkskog drummer (and later Emperor live bassist) Secthdamon joined and handled vocals and bass.
Zyklon's second album, Aeon, exposed the band to more media attention. The production is much clearer and music videos were made for two tracks, Core Solution and Psyklon Aeon.
The band's third effort, Disintegrate, was released on May 15, 2006 to great critical acclaim. It was recorded in November - December 2005 at the "Akkerhaugen Lydstudio", in Norway.
Samoth finally announced the split-up of the band on January 7, 2010.

Specimen Eruption
Zyklon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Disintegration; a world full of snakes
This is Machiavellian Strategy,
An extensive form of tragedy
Evolution; countercharge the ambivalence
Devolution; create your own malevolence
No more mercy, hold your mind
Origin of a concealed fate,
It means we cannot go at any rate
This is death, this is life
Is this what existence all will be like?
As pitiful as you will ever be
Open your eyes and you will finally see
My omnipotence, no more accessible
It will only make you more feeble
Challenge; constraint of my aggression
Only obtained through concession
Response; obey through authority
I could only conform to negativity
Origin of a concealed fate
It means we cannot go at any rate
This is death, this is life
Is this what existence all will be like?
The opening lines of Zyklon's song "Specimen Eruption" hint at a theme of growth and disintegration. The lyrics suggest that growth may not come without disintegration, and that the world is full of dangerous snakes. The phrase "Machiavellian Strategy" suggests a manipulative and potentially harmful approach to life, and the reference to tragedy implies that this approach may not end well.
The next lines of the song suggest a duality between evolution and devolution. The lyrics suggest that we can countercharge ambivalence with evolution, but we can also create our own malevolence through devolution. The idea of holding one's mind is presented as a way to avoid a negative culmination, although the exact nature of this culmination is left unclear.
The song then turns to the idea of fate, suggesting that our fate is concealed and that we cannot go at any rate. The lyrics also describe death and life as two sides of the same coin, asking if this is what existence will always be like. The song ends with a warning that if we open our eyes, we will see the songwriter's omnipotence, but that this will only make us more feeble.
Overall, "Specimen Eruption" seems to be exploring themes of growth, disintegration, duality, fate, and the potential dangers of a manipulative approach to life.
