Nara
alt-J Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Soon
I'm gonna marry a man like no other
Light the fuse, hallelujah, hallelujah

Love, love is the warmest color
Petrol blues, hallelujah, hallelujah
Comes, saut dans le vide, my lover
In my youth the greatest tide washed up my prize

You.

Follow, let him go, let him lead me be
Love is a pharaoh, and in front of me
I thought let him be where he want to be
Love is a pharaoh and he's boning me

I've discovered a man like no other man
I've discovered a man like no other man
I've discovered a man like no other man
I've found a love to love like no other can

Ah ooh
Ah ooh
I've found a love to love like no other can

He's found me, my Aslan

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
Marry a man like no other

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
Love is the warmest color

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
Unpin your butterflies, Russia

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
To be a deer in Nara

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama

Overall Meaning

The song "Nara" by alt-J is a beautiful testament to the power of love and the search for a soulmate. The lyrics describe the singer's journey to find the perfect man and how they have discovered a love that is like no other. The chorus begins with the line, "Soon I'm gonna marry a man like no other," which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer is filled with joy and excitement as they talk about finding their true love and preparing to marry them. The repeated use of the word "hallelujah" reinforces this sense of spiritual fulfillment and gratitude.

The next verse moves into a discussion of the colors that love can evoke. The singer describes love as "the warmest color" and the "petrol blues," which suggests a complexity and depth to this feeling. The mention of "saut dans le vide," which means "jump into the void" in French, adds a sense of urgency and risk-taking to the song. The line "In my youth the greatest tide washed up my prize" implies that the singer has gone through some difficult times but has come out the other side with a treasure.

The final lines of the song reinforce the idea of finding a love that is outside the norm. The reference to Aslan, the lion from "The Chronicles of Narnia," suggests that the singer has found a partner who is strong and faithful. The repeated use of "Bovay, Alabama" gives the song a sense of place, perhaps suggesting that the singer has found their soulmate in a small southern town. The final line, "To be a deer in Nara," is a beautiful image of surrendering to the beauty of the world and embracing the unknown.

@mikesmith8293

Nara is my all-time favourite song.

It was the summer two years ago when I first listened to the song. So much glee and joy coming to my mind. I felt kinda bewildered.
Everytime I am listening to the song the pictures of the summer 16 are flying into my mind.

One thing confusing me is that you do not really know the greatness of a moment in the present. You learn to appreciate these moments afterwards.
I do not know if that is just me and I want to learn to appreciate the moment and, as edgy as it sounds, to live it.

only some words flying around in my mind that I had to write down
