Awake
ayokay feat. mafalda Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where'd you go
Now I know
I made it seem like it was wrong
I thought it through and it's not gone
It's in my head
I can't forget
All the things that didn't last
If only we were more attached

But If I ever love you
I would lose control
Baby, it's time for me to step away
And if I ever love you
I would never fall
The thought of you it keeps me
Awake
(It keeps me awake)

Here's a chance
To run away
From all the things we left behind
It shouldnt be this hard to find
What's in the way
I can't replay
All the memories we could've had
If only you realize that

But If I ever love you
I would lose control
Baby, it's time for me to step away
And if I ever love you
I would never fall
The thought of you it keeps me
Awake
(It keeps me awake)

(It keeps me awake)
(It keeps me awake)

Overall Meaning

The song "Awake" by ayokay feat. mafalda is a heartwarming, yet melancholic track that deals with a past relationship that didn't go as planned. The song's narrator is grappling with the reality that, even though they thought they were doing the right thing, they ended up hurting the person they cared about the most. The chorus - "But if I ever love you, I would lose control. Baby, it's time for me to step away. And if I ever love you, I would never fall. The thought of you, it keeps me awake" - is a poignant representation of the singer's struggle to cope with their feelings while trying to move on. The phrase "the thought of you, it keeps me awake" is particularly meaningful because it shows that the singer can't stop thinking about their lost love, and they're haunted by their regrets.

The verses of the song expand on the singer's feelings of guilt and longing. The first verse talks about how the singer made the relationship seem wrong, and how they wish they could take it back. The second verse talks about how the singer wishes they could go back in time and make things work, but they're also resigned to the fact that it's too late. Overall, "Awake" is a very relatable song that deals with universal themes of regret, loss, and moving on.

The piano in the background adds a sense of nostalgia. This is what music is made for--to move you, make you feel something. In love!

This is one of, if not the most beautiful song I've ever heard in my life. I remember the first time I heard it about 4 years ago going to Hong Kong for the first time (first time ever leaving the US too!!😬)... I've always been a 100% hip hop/rap kinda guy and after hearing this song my taste in music expanded beyond what I ever thought capable.. This song is a masterpiece.. Very, extremely, ridiculously under appreciated (as with pretty much anything Ayokay did) I will never ever forget this song and it will ALWAYS be in my rotation.

Everytime I hear this song, I automatically think of Hong Kong and how amazing and out of world the experience was.. This song is so euphoric and nostalgic, yet melancholy. As I write this, I'm just now realizing how fortunate I am to have heard it at such a good time in my life; it's like I relive the entire trip in the length of the song. I lose thought of pretty much everything else in life and just get lost in reliving the memories.

Thank you for being one of the most unique and innovative artists of my, our, generation. I am disappointed you don't have millions of views but at the same time I'm happy that not err one knows!!

I was peeing in the restroom when I heard this song. I only had enough time to shake twice, zipped up, and downloaded Shazam right away to capture the song.
