Sticks and Stones

Now here's a tale
Tale I will tell
Blood lust after no sweet love
And a many, many things I do so well

Oh you know that's the end
That's the end so far away down
They said that I was as good as dead
And there was hope, but not for us together
My friend, my only friend

Oh well you know that that's the end
And that's the end so far away down

Skip... fame on the run
Don't look back into the motherf**king sun, no

Oh well you know that that's the end
And that's the end so far away down

Sticks and stones
May break my bones
Oh but your words
They really kill me

Sticks and sto-o-o-o-ones
May break my bo-o-o-o-ones
Sticks and stones may break my bones
Oh but your words they really kill me

And there you know that's the end
But there can never be and end

Overall Meaning

The song "Sticks and Stones" by Babyshambles is a track that is rich with raw emotion and beautifully-crafted lyrics, which is a trademark of the band's frontman, Pete Doherty. The song tells a tale of a person who is blood-lusted and doesn't believe in sweet love. Despite possessing many talents, the persona is still portrayed as being dead, hopelessly lost, and detached from everything around him, except for his only friend.

Pete Doherty delivers the song's message with intense, unguarded vocals that are filled with pain and vulnerability. The song highlights the power of words and how they can be used to hurt and destroy. The chorus "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words they really kill me" shows the depth of the pain that words can cause, even when compared to physical violence.

The bridge of the song is a catchy reference to the song's title, "Sticks and stones", while the line "Don't look back into the motherf**king sun, no" is a mantra for leaving past pain behind and not dwelling on what is out of reach. The final line of the song, "But there can never be an end," leaves the listener with a sense of hope that even with the pain and torment endured, there is still room for healing and reconciliation.

My friend David sadly died this Friday, I just was thinking about all the fun times I had with him and I remember him getting so excited to yell out too this song, he would always
Yell out "I smoke my dope and pop my perky" and I would just sing along with him... It's ironic that the way he died was a drug overdose from perks. I knew he did perks but I never would of thought it would kill him so soon.. I miss you brotha! I'll never forget you. You were the most hyped personally I've ever met in this world.. R I P in loving memory of, David Matthew opsahl. ❤️😔
