The three met in a forest cemetery on a hill somewhere in Ontario, Canada in the fall of 2009. The idea for Bear. came the next summer when they lived together in an apartment with no furniture or air-conditioning. They began writing and recording once autumn returned and have spent their time up until now secluded from others.

The song "o" by bear. is a melancholy ballad about a person drowning their sorrows in alcohol and longing for someone who only exists in their dreams.
