Leaves
ben&ben Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can think of all the times
You told me not to touch the light
I never thought that you would be the one
I couldn't really justify
How you even thought it could be right
Cause everything we cherished is gone
And in the end, can you tell me if
It was worth the try, so I can decide

Leaves will soon grow from the bareness of trees
And all will be alright in time
From waves overgrown come the calmest of seas
And all will be alright in time
Oh you never really love someone until you learn to forgive

Try as hard as I might
To flee the shadows of the night
It haunts me and it makes me feel blue
But how can I try to hide
When every breath and every hour
I still end up thinking of you?
And in the end, everything we have makes it worth the fight
So I will hold on for as long

As leaves will soon grow from the bareness of trees
And all will be alright in time
From waves overgrown come the calmest of seas
And all will be alright in time
Oh you never really love someone until you learn to forgive

I never thought that I would see the day
That I'd decide if I should leave or stay
But in the end what makes it worth the fights
That no matter what happens we try to make it right

Leaves will soon grow from the bareness of trees
And all will be alright in time
From waves overgrown come the calmest of seas
And all will be alright in time
Wounds of the past will eventually heal
And all will be alright in time
'Cause all of this comes with a love that is real
I said all will be alright in time
I said all will be alright in time
I said all will be alright in time
All will be alright in time
Oh, you never really love someone until
You learn to forgive

You learn to forgive
Learn to forgive

Overall Meaning

The song "Leaves" by Ben&Ben is a song about finding hope and forgiveness after heartbreak. The opening verse of the song reflects on the advice given by someone who warned the singer not to touch the light, a metaphor for pursuing something that ultimately leads to pain. The singer, however, did not listen to the advice and finds themselves in a situation where they are left wondering if the pain and heartbreak were worth it. The chorus of the song reminds the listener that just like leaves grow from the bareness of trees and the calmest of seas come from waves overgrown, everything will be okay in time. The bridge of the song reflects on the idea that real love requires forgiveness and the importance of making things right.

The lyrics and melody of the song combine to create a sense of vulnerability and hope. The repetition of the phrase "all will be alright in time" is a comforting reminder to the listener that no matter how much pain and heartbreak they may experience, there is still hope for healing and forgiveness. The use of natural imagery throughout the song, such as the growth of leaves and the calmness of seas, reflects the cyclical nature of life and the idea that things come and go in their own time.

Overall, "Leaves" is a powerful song that encourages the listener to hold on to hope, to forgive and to believe that everything will eventually be okay. It's a song about the importance of healing and growing from heartbreak.

it took me a lot of courage to finally open up and say this.

i stopped listening to Leaves right after my cousin died. This was his favorite song and he would insist that I should listen to this weeks before he died (he died from an accident). Whenever I hear leaves or it plays on my phone, i literally would skip and play the next song because I could hear him play and sing along. Today, just like the first time, I'm listening to it again. It was never easy after all I was the only person in the family who witnessed everything in the hospital room. It was tragic. He left without goodbye. It's been a year already since he passed away and I could still remember every moments we had. Though he left us with a biggest scar in our hearts, this song gives comfort to ease away our pain and healing.
"We never really love someone until we learn to forgive." I forgive you, for leaving me/us first. I know it will take a lot of time to heal but we are working on it. We can't help remember and wishing you were here with us.
we love you.
Life goes on.

Ben&Ben was right, "all will be all right in time."

T.

I swear Day 6 is so under rated. Day6 deserves more love. They are among the groups that has the best vocals in kpop.

@@iatehoshischicken2128 Yes, Day6 isn't super underrated but somehow I say 'underrated' because I think they need more recognition and appretiation for their innovative music.
