Sweet Dreams
beyonce(±Ì°ºË¹) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Every night I rush to my bed
With hopes that maybe I'll get a chance to see you
When I close my eyes I'm going out of my head
Lost in a fairytale, can you hold my hands and be my guide?
Clouds filled with stars cover your skies
What kinda dream is this?
You could be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Either way I don't wanna wake up from you
(Turn the lights on)
Sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Somebody pinch me, your love's too good to be true
(Turn the lights on)
My guilty pleasure, I ain't going nowhere
Baby 'long as you're here, I'll be floating on air
'Cause you're my
You can be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Either way I don't wanna wake up from you
(Turn the lights on)
I mention you when I say my prayers
I wrap you around all of my thoughts
Boy you're my temporary high
I wish that when I wake up you're there
To wrap your arms around me for real
And tell me you'll stay by side
Clouds filled with stars cover the skies
(Cover the skies)
And I hope it rains, you're the perfect lullaby
What kinda dream is this?
You could be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Either way I don't wanna wake up from you
(Turn the lights on)
Sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Somebody pinch me, your love's too good to be true
(Turn the lights on)
My guilty pleasure, I ain't going nowhere
Baby 'long as you're here, I'll be floating on air
'Cause you're my
You can be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Either way I don't wanna wake up from you
(Turn the lights on)
Tattoo your name across my heart
So it will remain
Not even death can make us part
What kind of dream is this?
You could be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Either way I don't wanna wake up from you
(Turn the lights on)
Sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Somebody pinch me, your love's too good to be true
(Turn the lights on)
My guilty pleasure, I ain't going nowhere
Baby 'long as you're here, I'll be floating on air
'Cause you're my
You can be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare
Either way I don't wanna wake up from you
(Turn the lights on)
Either way I don't wanna wake up from you
In the song "Sweet Dreams," Beyonce talks about her longing to be with a special person she dreams of every night. She hopes that her dream will come true, and she doesn't want to wake up from it. She imagines a sky filled with stars and wants it to rain, as the person she dreams of is her perfect lullaby. She asks if the person she dreams of is a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare, but either way, she doesn't want to wake up from them. The person she dreams of is her guilty pleasure, and as long as they're with her, she feels like she's floating on air. She wishes that the person she dreams of will be there when she wakes up and wrap their arms around her for real. The last lines of the song refer to her wanting to tattoo the person's name across her heart, so they will remain with her forever, even in death.
Overall, "Sweet Dreams" is a romantic and dreamy song that showcases Beyonce's powerful vocals. The lyrics allow listeners to imagine a world of stars and fairytales, with the longing for a love that is both sweet and possibly dangerous. Beyonce's use of contrasting imagery throughout the song, such as sweet dreams versus beautiful nightmares, adds to the depth of the song and creates a memorable experience for the listener.

Yeah, the production team and the people who wrote the song for her must've worked really hard to pull this off - but I'm sure the choreography isn't that easy either. I absolutely couldn't be bothered sitting in a chair for hours on end while people put makeup on me. Definitely couldn't dance like her though.
