The First Time
blink-182 Lyrics

Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah

First drink of the night just to get me right
The first light of the day I know I've got it all wrong
First pill that you drop only sets it off
The next morning you wake up all blurry and numb

Before all the damage securities
Before all your innocence is all lost
Think back to the time you were all alone
One day you'll look back and say where's it all gone?

Sometimes we get lost inside our little heads
Don't sleep, just yet, we all know that there's nothing like the
First love, first time, there ain't nothing like the first time
Passed out, last night, there ain't nothing like the first time

Taking all the meds (first love)
Sleeping with her friends (first time)
Find out in the end ain't (there ain't)
Nothing like the first time (nothing like the first time)
Stuck inside her head (passed out)
Jumping in her bed (last night)
Find out in the end ain't (there ain't)
Nothing like the first time (nothing like the first time)

Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah
(Nothing like the first time)

First time on a plane, said she's paranoid
Tried to make her feel safe and said it all wrong
First time in LA so she can't avoid
Leaving life she's failing all along

Sometimes we get lost inside our little heads
Don't sleep, just yet, we all know that there's nothing like the
First love, first time, there ain't nothing like the first time
Passed out, last night, there ain't nothing like the first time

Taking all the meds (first love)
Sleeping with her friends (first time)
Find out in the end ain't (there ain't)
Nothing like the first time (nothing like the first time)
Stuck inside her head (passed out)
Jumping in her bed (last night)
Find out in the end ain't (there ain't)
Nothing like the first time (nothing like the first time)

Yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
(Nothing like the first time)

Yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
(Nothing like the first time)

Overall Meaning

The song "The First Time" by Blink-182 is an introspective piece that explores the idea of nostalgia and longing for one's youth. The lyrics describe a series of "firsts" - the first drink, the first light of the day, the first pill, and the first love or sexual experience. The opening lines of the song, "First drink of the night just to get me right / The first light of the day I know I've got it all wrong," suggest that the singer is seeking comfort and escape through substance use. However, as the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is reflecting on these experiences and realizing that they are all in the past.

The chorus of the song, which repeats the mantra "first love, first time, there ain't nothing like the first time," captures the bittersweet feeling of longing for the past. The verses continue to describe the singer's memories of these "firsts," with references to medications, sleeping with friends, and feeling stuck or lost.

Overall, "The First Time" is a poignant exploration of the complex emotions that come with growing older and looking back on one's past experiences.

@Zak Payne ok if u consider it classic then sure its similar. But older blink fans will consider Enema more of their introduction to the grand scene of mainstream pop bubblegum punk. I'm 41 almost the bands age, and when you've already had 4 albums out b4 Enema its hard for us to consider it classic Blink. We grew up as teenagers jamming the old stuff but still loved Enema bc it was still different enough, but once American Pie put it on the movie it blew into the stratosphere of mainstream. I put 2 links to what we consider classic blink, the 2 main albums that started us as Blink fans way b4 Enema came out. But at least ur fans of cool stuff.

Zak Payne

@Magik Fingers yes Iโ€™ve listened to that dude. To me, Enema is โ€œclassicโ€ blink too. And this song sounds classic not because it emulates one style of the band perfectly, because it has the sorta stuff youโ€™d expect and want from a pop punk song by blink imho

Magik Fingers

@xBrandon 22 u know whata up, not classic but similar to older stuff like Enema.

โ€œTaking all the meds, sleeping with her friendsโ€ isnโ€™t something I expected to hear from Hoppus in 2019, but Iโ€™m glad I did. I missed the degenerate side of Blink.
