Who Am I
cameron diaz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who am I, what have I become?

Do I stand for something, or for money?

Who am I, where's my good girl gone?
You know I had a good heart once, you see.

Who am I, now that my armor's worn?
I gave you what I didn't know I needed.
Who am I, now that my heart has won?
I didn't know I need... anyone.

But I've got today, I've got to make,
The best I can of it.
'Cause yesterday is dead and gone,
And me along with it.

I want to start again, so I'll look within
Remember when I'd want in?
'Cause I don't know who I've become
But I will trust in it. Who am I to spend my life alone?
Forever looking for some place to call home.
Who am I, about to meet myself?
This should feel right but something don't.

I want to start again, so I'll look within
Remember when I'd want in?
'Cause I don't know who I've become
But I will trust in it. I will trust in it But today, I've got to make,
The best I can of it.
'Cause yesterday is dead and gone

And me along with it
I want to start again

Overall Meaning

Cameron Diaz's song "Who Am I?" is a reflection on self-discovery and trying to find one's sense of self. In the song, Diaz asks a series of questions that revolve around her identity and purpose in life. She wonders whether she stands for something beyond just money, what happened to the good-hearted person she used to be, and who she has become now that her armor is worn and her heart has won.

The chorus talks about the importance of today and making the best of it, as yesterday is already gone. Diaz expresses a desire to start again and look within herself for answers. She acknowledges that she doesn't know who she has become, but she is willing to trust in the process of self-discovery. She questions why she has spent so much time alone, searching for a place to call home, and wonders if this new path will lead her to the right place.

The lyrics of "Who Am I?" reveal a vulnerability and honesty that is relatable to many people on a journey of self-discovery. It's clear that Diaz has experienced some personal growth and is now questioning who she has become. I really like this song because it's the song of realization
1. Collen realizes that she shouldn't feel bitter about life and start to treat other with the good heart she had
2. Stacks realizes that he cares for Annie very much and that he needed someone in his life
3. Annie realizes that there is something wrong or off about her parents showing up even it should feel right or this moment should be celebrated

And at the end of the song
"They start again" meaning a fresh slate

Collen treating others well
Stacks trusting others
Annie going with her parents.

Jamie Fox is so talented it's downright freaky.  To be able to sing, act, do comedy and play the piano the way he does is truly amazing. The little girl understood the song and brought the right emotions and Cameron Diaz was quite a pleasant surprise. Together, they made one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Well don!
