Although this likely is true for some, the death penalty is not a source of revenge, but retribution, as it’s not fair to assume that somebody has truly repented without willingly paying retribution for their actions. The death penalty is a true form of retribution for those who have heinously snuffed out the life of somebody else without reason. If the party is indeed guilty of the crime, they should pay that retribution without mercy save only a request for mercy from the victims. Your claim to sadism is also misplaced. Sadism is enjoying (specifically sexually) INFLICTING pain and harm on others, not witnessing, acknowledging, or hoping for that pain. Besides, most people in modern days advocate for “humane” form of execution, often time vouching for the least painful and quick death. People being attracted to death is a phenomenon that is natural in all humans as well as the destruction of inherent evil. The same thing that causes people to slow down and look at a car reck or for people to gather around a person about to leap from the 10th story is the same thing that draws people to execution and violence. The experience of danger triggers adrenaline throughout the body which causes enhanced stimulation, and when you consciously realize that you’re safe from the danger that you’re reacting to, it creates a dopamine affect, just like roller coasters and skydiving. That combined with curiosity is what draws crowds, not necessarily the actual enjoyment of life being lost.

@Rob Thomas Most of these commenters are like hungry wolves. They use ideas like justice and sympathy for the victims to justify their bloodlust. If you get down to the core of this thing - they want to see these girls tortured and/or killed. Because some darkness inside them enjoys the idea of people being tortured and/or killed. The crimes committed just gives them a way to justify the expression of that darkness. I'm reminded of crowds gathered around to watch a public hanging or beheading 200 years ago. Cheering, smiling, overcome with joy that they get to see somebody be killed... all because it's "justice." Apparently, "good people" become sadists when the people being tortured and/or killed are the "bad people."

These same people would have thrown rotten tomatoes and cursed at Jesus, as he was dying on the cross. "Forgive them father, for they know now what they do." It's true. I'm not religious, definitely not a Christian, but there's wisdom in those words. There are so few "thinking men" in this world. So few philosophers. Most people live their entire lives basing every decision and judgement on emotions and gut reactions. Creatures of instinct, seemingly more beast than man.

For some of these cases life in prison and death penalty seems like a easy way out. I think people should be treated how they treated their victims until death, never have any chances to appeal in cases where there is evidence and confessions that are proven.
