Last year I twice went to Emergency room thinking I might be having heart attack (I'm 28 years old). On both occasions the moment I saw a doctor or nurse .. I calmed down immediately.

My mother somehow knew it wasn't the case .. She could see that fear of failures and social anxiety had a grip over me.
Then she asked me to read about panic attacks .. I reluctantly did so .. but oh boy , the moment I read that it's most likely a panic attack .. I was so relaxed and happy.

Funny thing is that you might not have thoughts of panicking .. but your body still perceives it to be so .. and the damn body hurts so much .. esp hands and legs.

Now I have learnt to avoid the situations or thinking patterns which could possibly lead to such attacks .. it's good now ... not 100% cured .. but 90% reduction in such incidents.

As a person who suffered many years of panic attacks, in the end, the only cure is you. Trust yourself, forgive yourself, be kind to yourself, give yourself the time and space you need. You will get better, trust me.

My solution to a panic attack may be unconventional. I have had several in my life and my cure is to accept and acknowledge that I am having a panic attack. I will tell myself "Oh, this is a panic attack, just let it in and get it over with". My panic attacks last a couple seconds this way with no aftermath. I hope this helps someone!

I've never had a panic attack but I've had panic bursts, where I suddenly feel hot and get a feeling similar to regret and adrenaline. It's normally happens when I don't do homework or miss an assignment, I over think it get panicky them calm myself down then go through the same process a few hours later. It's like this every day, the only way I can solve it is to probably do the assignments but the anxiety makes me not want to do it and any time I have to do it I spend playing video games or watching YouTube

You know what's sad is that after reading so many comments here, I realized that most of us started having anxiety/panic attack when COVID-19 pandemic started. It's sad that we may not suffer with the virus but our mental health will definitely ruin us. But here we are almost 2 years of this pandemic and we're still fighting and trying to get through the day. We are not alone. We are here in this comment section for a reason. To tell each other that we're going through the same thing and we are strong to face these challenges everyday. I hope everyone gets better. Don't give up. Trust yourself! yep, before covid i was shy but pretty confident in school, my academics, and looks. but the pandemic hit and im still suffering from anxiety and depression and have lost all confidence ive stated above. my panic attacks used to be daily and recently ive noticed i now panic once every two weeks or so. im getting better and i can see that. the people around me can see a difference in my behavior and such :) ive stopped struggling with waking up in the mornings and stopped wishing for everything to just stop. i didnt believe it would end but trust me those feelings and thoughts will go away.

I've only ever had 2 panic attacks in my life, but I remember them so vividly that I feel sorry for anyone that has chronic panic attacks. Just the feeling of hyperventilating but you feel like you're suffocating while the room spins and your heart is trying to keep up for no reason is possibly one of the worst feelings in the world. I also hate just feeling anxious randomly, sometimes for the whole day.

For me it felt like I wasn't getting any oxygen no matter how much I breathed. I was completely convinced I was suffocating to death and I was about to die. Once I realized it was strange I hadn't passed out, I realized that I HAD to have been receiving oxygen. Suddenly the feeling went away in minutes. Maybe this line of reasoning could help somebody else out too

It's really calming to know I'm not alone in this. I am 2 years panic attack free this August and now I often try to understand what made them stop. I used to have them so often, they were so scary, I hated having them in front of people because they kept talking to me but their voices were muffled so I couldn't understand what they were saying; my legs went numb, I was nauseous, heart went crazy, couldn't breathe... I remember one time I had a really big one which lasted for 4 hours and it happened on my birthday, kept thinking oh well, at least my grave stone will have the same dates lol. My last panic attack happened 1 day before I travelled to Austria with my mom to see her friends (I love mom, but she can be a bit chaotic!) I felt like the plane, the bus rides, the train - all needed me to be responsible, which made me have the first panic attack where I actually considered calling an ambulance. The whole journey I drew squares in my head, inhaled for 4 seconds, exhaled for 4 seconds, held my breath, listened to music so as not to hear the world around me. When we got there, I met my mom's friend, whose daughter had two small boys. They spoke German, I spoke English, so we couldn't really understand each other, but somehow that was okay. I remember drawing a hot air balloon for one of the boys and feeling a panic attack coming, then he came and said the German word for sun, which turned into laughter and us trying to mimic the sun. The feeling of unease went away. On the same day, we went down a path leading to a small body of water; the way down was quite steep, and a small kitten was following us. While everyone was happy, I was constantly anxious about the kitten falling off the hill, so I tried to guide her. The background faded, it was just me and this slippery kitten. At one point, I got angry, I didn't want to be responsible for her, so I just gave her to my mom telling her to look after her, that I can't deal with it. She said fiiiine, and then left her on a little bridge over the water, so the kitten almost fell. I rushed to get her, and I managed, which felt so odd. You know that feeling where you're pretty sure you can never save, only be saved? I knew this was a job I needed to do, nobody shared my sense of responsibility for this kitten, just like nobody seemed to share my uneasiness. And I guided her the whole way up again, where her owners said she always does this, going up and down that hill... I suppose I'm sharing this just to kindly say that it gets easier, somehow through things you don't expect. If mid-panic it doesn't feel like it, it will change. You will change! I think seeing innocence in the world, realising responsibility is needed but not meant to be perfect are good things to carry with you. That day, my panic attacks just stopped. I hope one day they stop for you too. I'm not sure if they'll come back, but if they do, I'll just draw squares in my head and mutter the German word for sun.

While i was reading your comment i was having a panic attack for two hours, i felt chocked and i kept throwing up and my heart wouldn’t stop beating like as if it was racing. I watched Videos and read article and tried to meditate just to make it stop but none of it worked. But reading this story worked like magic and now I’m writing this comment i got calm and my breathing is stable again and i stopped shaking!!! Thank u so so so so much for telling this inspiring story of yours, i’ll always remember this if i had it again hopefully this is the last time 🤞🏻

2020, pandemic, losing my dearest grandma in front of my eyes, and then the panic attack just happened out of nowhere. For a while i thought i was going to die, but doctor said i was completely fine and healthy. Seeing everyone here have the same attacks as i am makes me feel like me and you are not alone and i know that i can go through it, and you too.

When I had my first panic attack, I was completely ready to die. Exams, no sleep, several caffeine pills deep which only made the cardiac symptoms even worse. After going through several more and learning what they are, I thought back to the time I had dismissed a friend's panic attack years ago and was absolutely shattered. If you haven't experienced one, it's very difficult to empathize.

From someone with anxiety,here some tips to stop a panic attack:
The “Five things you can see” thing works pretty well. Try it for sure.
If you have some gum or even better,a mint,pop one in your mouth. Focus on the sharp,refreshing flavor and not the fear.
If tears start coming,and you get that annoying ache in your throat and you KNOW stuff is about to go down,hold your breath,count to 5 think of your favorite song,curl your tounge,tap your toes. Do anything to stimulate your hands,feet and senses reason: activating all of your senses and body parts will give you many things to focus on and not the fear. Unless you get sensory issues in which case….
Get up and take a couple laps around the area. Srry if that’s bad advice I don’t really get sensory overload so don’t know much about it.
And those are things that worked on me. Everyone develops they’re own ways to stop panic attacks in the end of the day tho I suppose

These are the tips I learned along the way, too! With sensory anxiety there are fidget toys, crossing your legs or arms, EFT tapping, breathing exercises, sound-cancelling headphones.....I've had crazy misophonia episodes that brought me into panic attacks but also knowing your triggers and ways to remove yourself if/when possible has been the best help to me so far

Absolutely agree. Distraction. Doesn’t matter what it is, any object works. I will tell myself “look at that tree. Look at the leaves and the detail in them. I wonder how many branches there are” and continue to distract the mind until my body is able to come back to baseline. I have had to do this many a time on an airplane where the panic attack was almost “stop the plane” level.

I had my very first panic attack a little over a year now. I’ve always had friends with anxiety and some who even suffered from frequent panic attacks. I never truly understood it until I went through it. And it’s true, I can’t enjoy most of the things I used to before it happened. Even though I know it’ll pass and things will be okay, it’s difficult to control the physical feeling of it. Since then, I haven’t had another panic attack, but I’ve come close a few times. And if you’ve made it this far, just know you’re not alone. There’s an end to the nightmare, we just have to be strong and keep pushing even when we feel like we can’t anymore. 🤍

As a child I suffered through panic attacks and I have never fully recovered. I learned a few tips if anyone wants to try them out though.
1. Think of all the good things in your life and realize that you are stressing over nothing
2. Assess the problem compared to what you are making if out to be
3. Distract yourself, the more you think the more you worry
4. If you can't fall asleep and don't want to take an anti depressant take melatonin, it's non addictive and will put you to sleep

Reading the comments made me want to share my story too. I’ve had about 3 major panic attacks in my 25 years but my last attack was my worst. It lasted about an hour or two maybe more and it worried my family so much that I ended up in the hospital at night. The doctor said it was a panic attack but I already knew because I had researched before when I had my first attack. Earlier in the afternoon I went to see my friends and we smoked weed in their car. I’ve been a frequent smoker for years and never had a problem until then. I drank an energy drink before meeting up with them. I’ve been stressing over everything in my life, it’s been the worst I ever felt, my grandma passed away from cancer, my car broke down again, I was fighting a court case, I lost my job from Covid and was unemployed. My anxiety was overflowing and I bottled up everything. My panic attack started when we were driving and smoking, I lost my phone a few days ago so I couldn’t even keep myself from overthinking. My friends helped me calm down I felt like I was a burden to them, but they reassured me I wasn’t. My friend parked the car and I stepped outside the car for some fresh air. My heart was jumping out my chest and I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I felt like I was dying from the inside out, like I was sinking with no way out. I was looking up at the sky asking myself “what’s wrong with me?” , “why am I like this?” , why can’t I just be normal?”. My best friend who is like a brother to me stepped out the car and hugged me. He told me “everything’s alright you’re gonna be alright”. It was cold outside and snowing so we went back inside the car even tho I felt trapped in the backseat but I asked my friend if I could hold his hand while we all talked to help me relieve my stress and make me feel better which I did. I did feel better after but I asked them if they could take me home so I can feel more comfortable. I went home and stayed in my room. I don’t know what happened but it happened again. I ended up calling my family and they drove me to the hospital.
Now I stopped smoking weed because it made my anxiety and stress worse. I stopped drinking energy drinks and lowered my caffeine intake. I decided to open up more about how I’m feeling because I’m only human. I stopped having panic attacks since then but I still worry about it. My point is surround yourself with friends and family who understand and want to understand what’s happening with you. Talk to them and do things that make you truly happy. I focus on my music whenever I feel like I’m dying and I’m trying to better myself.

I have a very similar story to your! Omg i was shocked reading this, almost felt like i wrote this. I stopped smoking as well & lowered my caffeine intake by 95%. I got my first panic attack 1 month 1 week ago & I’ve had a few since then. I constantly worry about it every hour of the day. Something i get mini attacks i can control right away but sometimes i get big ones that are super scary. I had been a smoker for 14 years straight & i am now 1 month 1 week clean. As a kid I was always under the impression that people that had to leave the room due to anxiety and panic attacks were just 'Weak willed' or overreacting, now that I've experienced such symptoms, I would never wish this kind of thing on anybody. I feel like I'm seeing myself in the mirror reading this comment. As a kid I took pride in how nothing fazed me (I used to tell myself that my heart was made of stone) and thought that things like anxiety were just people being pathetic to garner sympathy. Then karma hits and I got generalized anxiety disorder. Can't even eat in public places without losing my ability to breathe (I still go out anyways but for some reason it doesn't improve with exposure), give a speech to my classmates, or attend interviews and expect to do anything but look down at my feet and mumble as my body attacks itself. I've even been woken up by my body in the middle of the night just to experience what feels like a heart attack and closing of my airways at the same time. Nobody I'm close with quite gets what I'm experiencing in my day to day life. I'm constantly told to "just breathe", "take slower breaths", or to "just relax". If only it were so simple!

To whoever is reading this and experiencing panic disorder right now, I’ve been there in a very bad and horrible place, but I assure you that you can 100% recover from it and the the following PTSD, and once you overcome it your life will never be the same. It’s worth it. Stay strong, and do aerobic exercises. For the record I fully recovered in about 2 years. You can do it even faster. ❤️

I still remember one of the first few panic attacks I had vividly; the rapid breathing, numbness all over my body, dizziness, had me frantically looking for something to keep me sane but my mind refused which let me to panic even more. left me terrified for months. it could be frustrating, especially if it happens out of the blue and all you could do is wish for it to go away quickly. but one thing id like to point out is always remember to forgive yourself. never ever blame yourself for something that's out of your control. times like these you just have to be your own hero, become someone who loves you and treats you with the outmost respect. I’m so glad I found this video and this comment section. With my attacks I feel like I can’t breath and everything is closing in on my body so I am unable to move. My breathing gets raspy and that only seems to make it worse. My thoughts are jumbled and the only ideas that make it through the noise in my head is the need to quickly escape from where I standing. I hope anyone who goes through this similar thing can get the help they need like I have been fortunate enough to receive. When I was in middle school my mental health dropped drastically. There was so much I was dealing with in my life like trama, family issues, and it made me hate myself. I got diagnosed with many different disorders, but the main one I still deal with all the time is my crippling anxiety disorder. I’m the 6th grade I was having panic attacks 3 times a week from triggers I didn’t even know about. I was in therapy at the time and we tried millions of coping mechanisms, but none ever worked except one. Deep breathing. It’s the most basic coping tool, but it helps so much. To anyone reading this who may have gone through something similar, just remember it’s just your body trying its best to keep you safe. Take deep breaths, focus on your body and mind, and remind yourself it is going to be okay, and that you are not in danger. It’s not going to be easy at first, but I promise it gets better. <3

I feel like a lot of people overuse the phrase "panic attack." As someone who goes through panic attacks quite often, it's sometimes hurtful to see people over exaggerating their emotions by comparing them to the scary experience that a panic attack gives you, and then laugh about it. idk, i just hope people can understand what it's like so that they dont affect others who go through the struggle.

@Sanaz Lol yes. As someone with panic disorder, if I ever say to someone that I am anxious I am quick to follow it up with, "but it's not a panic attack, so it is a way more manageable emotion." Attacks make me feel very out of control, but nervousness or anxiety just give me a stomach ache. Also. Every couple of hours??? I am so so sorry! SSRIs tapering up to a normal dose helped cutting the tablets. Being on them for 6 months helped but side effects awful some of them. Other than this macrodosing mushrooms for a while helped loads. Some zinc, omega 3s and magnesium nootrphics could add to the neurogenesis of these medications

I’m feeling very blessed to have a dad that told me I come from 3 generations of panic attacks. I could tell it was hard for him to say it at the time, and I didn’t know what that meant. But I think I experienced my first one this week. I struggled to get my children under control and ready for school. They were telling each other silly jokes and kept laughing so loudly they didn’t listen to me. They are normally pretty well behaved, but we do have struggles. I got them dropped off at school OK but when I got home I felt like the breath was knocked out of me and my heart was pounding so hard, I had chest pain and wondered if I was going to die.

I suffer from multiple panic attacks, recently I got one in the mall, my heart beat up so fast, it felt like I'm running away from something that is dangerous or sth is going to attack me.

Whatever the situation is, it always helps me and maybe others as well, to recognize and accept that you have a panic attack in that moment. Of course it doesn't feel nice, but instead pulling more and more worst case scenarios up, think about an actual trigger that might caused the problem, for example (in my case): "too many people", which lead to the solution: "go to a place with less people where it's more calm, or distract yourself with sth in the mall, read ingredients of products, look up random items, forget the people around you, etc". The next step is, to tell yourself, that you will calm down soon, you just have to endure it, the current task will turn out to be a quest, and the focus you have will distract you from your actual panic attack, you are on a mission.

If everything turns out to be good again, don't forget the last step by praising yourself, you completed your mission, you are healthy and fine and you even leveled up! Which means you will be even stronger in the next mission!

For all those who are struggling with this, I had a panic attack any time I had to do something business related: Interviews, conferences, work, even my maid of honor speech. In the end after therapy, I found out that I was only scared because in the past I was put in situations I was uncomfortable with during school and I let that happen. Schools were very unforgiving towards kids that had anxiety. Now whenever I do one of those things I just repeat to myself, "I'm not in danger" over and over. I think about all the bad outcomes of the situation and then I remind myself that no matter what happens I have a way out. I'm not in a corner. I can walk away if I need to and take a breath. I remind myself that I am here, in the present, not in the past and not in the future. Nobody is out to hurt me and I am safe. However, above all else, I remind myself that it will pass. I will get whatever it is done and then I will move on with my life.

As someone who has had both a heart attack and panic attack -> The most painful of the two was panic attack. More chest pain during the panic attack (harder hitting, pulsating). Heart attack was a numb pain and slow a shutdown of the body (scarier than panic because I started losing feeling and sight).

I've always had chronic anxiety that at points caused some derealization and disassociation. But I tend to have "anxiety attacks" that are negative thought spirals with no physical symptoms. Recently, I experienced a few true panic attacks but because of my years of therapy and medication they were purely physical and I knew what they were. I have had multiple panic attacks per day for 15 years. My entire childhood was riddled with traumatic events and constant series of unfortunate events. One thing I’ve learned in life is that I know that the reprogramming of the brain or Neuroplasticity is possible through cognitive restructuring and changing ones focus. It is absolutely possible to re-wire your brain to not experience panic attacks anymore. It is through learning how to focus on the present moment and trusting that you have the ability to safely get through all unknown events in life no matter how serious they will be. Just Believe in yourself. And know that your breath is always in the present moment. Stay with the flow of your breath, like the waves of the ocean all things flow in and flow out. When you have a panic attack, I feel like the best way to calm it is to have someone who hugs you strongly in his arms until it’s gone. You desperately need the reassurance that everything is alright and that there’s nothing to be scared of.

I had my first panic attack experience yesterday. I thought I was dying or having a heart attack. It was such a horrible experience. My boyfriend was in front of me and thanks to him I managed to let him take control of the situation knowing that I'll be taken care of. Idk what I would've gone through if he wasn't there. I had surgery last week and of course with that fear in our heads my dad took me to the ETU to rule out other horrible things. I was fine but I wasn't at the same time. Then the doctors explained to me it was a panic attack and everything in my body is normal. Now I'm trying to learn about panic attacks so I'll know what to do in the future. Now I'm scared of getting a panic attack. Any advice on how to get over these fears?

What I learned after getting them everyday all the time for a year straight. I learned what stressed me out, how to stop myself or leave when it was getting overwhelming. It’s been 6 years and I rarely get panic attacks now, only under severe stress does it happen.

I watched this video once a long time ago and it gave me comfort knowing that I’m not alone. That was a few years ago. Maybe during the pandemic. Today, I’m glad to say I’ve gone for about 4 therapy appointments in the past 1 year and I’m getting better. Yesterday, I had another panic attack in a long time. It was painful but I knew it would subside. It’s CBT I got but my father was on antidepressants. I hope everyone here heals soon..

@Angelina La Rosa I don't feel completely 'normal' again, but I think my 'normal' is different now. I'm more grateful for the times I feel good and those are definitely getting more frequent. Therapy has certainly helped me a lot, but I think in the end it just takes a lot of time and patience to adjust to this new 'normal'. It has definitely been hard, but I think I've learned a lot and I aspire to heal completely from it some day. But until then I will continue to go to therapy and try to see the good in the little things. Also, I personally found it really helpful to be open about suffering with depersonalization/derealization to my friends and family so they know what you're going through and you're a little less alone. I hope this answered your question :))

I started having panic attacks a few years ago when I was in an abusive relationship. I’m out of it now but I still have them a few times a month and I don’t know How or When they will stop. Something I’ve noticed with mine is that they seemed to be tied to my hormonal cycles. Has anyone else experienced this? Ive struggled with anxiety for a lot of my life but never panic attacks until the onset of abuse… I feel like I’ll always resent my ex for a lot of things but this is one that seems so tied to him that just makes me so upset.

I have had many times where I had similar experiences to a panic attack. I’m not sure these were panic attacks or not but I think that I might need some help with it. I’m thinking of seeing a therapist but my mom says that it’s a waste of money.

-While about to present a presentation, I started to cry and my heart started beating really fast; I couldn’t get a gasp of air. I wanted to die and I had thoughts of death.

- During golf camp, my team was about to lose, similar things happened. I was crying and my heart raced; I couldn’t breathe at all. I also kept having thoughts of death.

These things happen to me every now and then. I might need help from a professional because I haven’t been diagnosed with anything and it’s really affecting my life.

Having more experience with these things than I would like to admit, I think a main component of a panic attack is a subconscious feeling you are powerless/helpless/stuck against something you are triggered by.

I woke up with an instant anxiety attack and I struggled to tell my family members, I was really worried because I didn’t know what was happening to my body, it may have been related to me being really worried about being able to sleep and breathe cause both of my nostrils were completely blocked, I was able to calm down thanks to my brother for noticing and after that I just wanted to give my brain a break from worries about my sickness by watching cartoons.

A few tips that worked for me:
- When the panic attack is starting and I'm on the street or the supermarket, I think "What's the worst thing that could happen to me: I'm going to sit on the floor?, that's not so serious. What people might think? Who cares what people could think of me sitting on the floor" then I start to calm down. I know it's not easy at all but it helps me

6 Months ago I had my first Panic attack which was the start of a windy road that encompassed a harsh reality of various emotional feelings including sadness, anxiety and of course panic. At the time, I often found solace from people sharing their experiences and words of encouragement in the comments section on videos like these. So I wanted to come back here and tell everyone... -Reach out for help through a therapist, family or friends.
-Practice self talk therapy. Be kind to yourself. What is the most kind and helpful things you would say to someone you loved in times of upset, Anxiety, Panic.
-Healthy Body Healthy Mind: Be physically active. Get natural endorphins flowing from exercising. This in turn can improve sleep, which improves our mental state of being.

As someone who would have up to 5 panic attacks a day let me tell you how it feels. It’s like you are literally seconds away from death and nothing can make that feel any less real. Meanwhile feeling like you’re going crazy and having to try to hide it from anyone around you, especially if it happens in public. Then when it’s finally over you’re so exhausted you feel like you’ve been hit by a truck.

When I was younger, I used to hate needles. It was never as bad that I’d have panic attacks, but the thought of them would make me really uncomfortable. I had some health problems which required me to have injections for a period of time and eventually I just got over it as long as I didn’t look at the needle going into me. Which was why I was blindsided when I had to have an MRI of my heart recently and a nurse had to put a cannula into my arm (dye so the parts they were interested in would be clearer in the MRI). I was sitting in a small waiting room on my own and my arm started to go numb, I started sweating and my vision went dark around the edges. I was convinced I was dying or that the nurse had done some wrong and I was terrified I was going to pass out and not wake up again. I eventually managed to talk myself out of it by repeating to myself that I was in a hospital and that if something was wrong this was the best place to be and I just got up and focused on slowly pacing from one side of the waiting room to the other until someone came to get me (it was better than sitting in one place). It took me a little while to realise that it was just a panic attack (I’d only ever had one before and I was alone for that too until my mum found me) and my body was responding to the ‘threat’ of having a cannula in my arm. That I wasn’t in any immediate danger, just uncomfortable, and if I was, there were people around to help me. Having someone around to reassure you always helps, but don’t forget you can always be your own best friend even if you’re body feels like it’s working against you.

I’ve suffered of panic attacks for almost my entire childhood and part of my adolescence, they haven’t stopped but they have decreased to the point of having one just once a year. I felt like I was going to die, that thing you feel in your stomach when you go down in a roller coaster, but in every part of my body.
I was scared I might throw up or stop breathing and couldn’t realize I was hurting my hands with my nails.
One thing that started to help was to think that I’m like a tree, through the roots I absorbed peace and “good energy” as I breathed, and as I exhaled I used to force myself to think that all the anxiety was leaving my body (even if I didn’t feel a thing changing the first times, it was basically just having faith it would be different when I stopped doing the exercises).

After a couple of times it made me feel better, and the next panic attacks lasted less and less. Today (I’m 20) I still have them, but they last much less than when I was a kid. I do exercises like focusing of 3 things I can see, feel and hear. I really hope that if you’re reading this, this exercises help you, and believe me, it will get better. It’s a hard work because some of the panic attacks are stronger, but the key is to trust yourself

Getting a panic attack for no reason is such scary experience. Sometimes I would sit down and play on my PC until I feel a sudden rush on my heart out of nowhere and began having intrusive thoughts of death, heart attack, etc. When I first have it, the attack lasted almost two hours and I began having anxiety about my body, eventually leading me to lose weight to avoid possible future panic attacks. Apparently, I still do, but only less frequent than before. Don't worry guys, panic attack is just the mind playing tricks to give you adrenaline without reason (unless there isn't one). As long as you're young and healthy, there's nothing to worry about.

Edit: I know losing weight isn’t much of a solution to avoiding panic attacks, but as long as the heart is healthy enough to know that getting a panic attack is just a temporary occurrence and will not damage your heart. Panic attack is just triggered haywire mentality

I know, I just recently had one a few months ago and it was the very first one I had with no obvious trigger. Just sitting on my couch and all of a sudden I felt a familiar physical sensation. Then my mind spiraled and I had one, I hadn't had one in years so it put me in a very bad place mentally for weeks. It's just so scary when there's nothing obvious to blame them on!

I supposedly had one for no known reason. I was having a nice evening- roommate was out of our tiny dorm for the weekend, no school work to do, no plans. I put on a documentary then this feeling there was something wrong with my heart and breathing hit me. I was confused as it had never before and didn't know what was wrong. Finally two friends were able to get me to the student health center. The nurses were yelling at me saying I was stressed out and had a panic attack. I was almost in tears saying I was more relaxed and happy than normal, but they kept yelling. They said all college kids are stressed out and I was wasting their time. When I walked out of the room (little room where they just took my bp), my friends asked why the nurses were yelling then they saw some tears in my eyes and got me back to my dorm. To be honest, having the nurses yelling at me was more traumatic than the supposed panic attack.

@wavy They vary greatly from person to person. They’re treatable enough to the point it no longer significantly impairs you. You can’t cure them, but you can treat them, which you can eventually handle long periods of time.

I had some very random panic attacks in the months immediately after having covid, and a lot of unexplained anxiety as well, along with wicked insomnia. It got better over time and is gone now after a year. Go figure. (My doctor tried a few different types of antidepressants. One made things considerably worse and the other two just sorta did Nothing. CBT was useless. A daily combo of H1 & H2 antihistamines, along with a low histamine diet & a mast cell stabilizer for a few months, however, worked a damned miracle.)

I’ve recently been having panic attacks for the past 2 years. I’m 36 years old now. The first one was at a dental office where I literally got super hot out of the blue, couldn’t stay still, felt like I needed fresh air or else I would die/faint smh. It got so bad that I really felt like I was going to pass out and so I ran out the back door of the office for fresh air. Mind you I was in the dentist chair while I got up and ran out (felt very embarrassed after) so once I made it out the back door I just stood there and felt much better. Every employee also ran after me and was scared because they didn’t know what was going on. They kept asking me what’s wrong, what’s wrong? I’m like idk but I got super hot and I felt like I was going to faint. So that was my first panic attack. My 2nd and 3rd happen again at the same dental office amd the 4th happen at a hospital right before I had to take a blood test.

Are these symptoms considered anxiety panic attacks or is it something else? Idk what it is BUT I really want to get it fix because it’s very embarrassing. Please help! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!
Also It feels like I’m out of air and couldn’t breathe.

This comment section feels like I’m finally understood.

In my experience with panic attacks, sometimes they come out of nowhere with no explanation. I’d start crying even though I don’t have a legitimate reason to. I’ll hyperventilate & honestly believe that I can’t breath & that I’m dying. The worst is when people ask what’s wrong and I’ll keep repeating “I don’t know” cause I legit don’t understand what’s going on in the moment. It’s also hard to speak full sentences although my brain knows what I’m trying to say… only like 2-3 words will come out. I believe mine are a result of PTSD after my brother was killed. I never been the same since.

Mine were caused from irrational fears of illness. I’ve been able to cure it from eating healthier and when I felt them coming on I’d just tell myself “it’s fine it’s just a panic attack”. I usually calm down and when I can’t, I call and talk to someone for a few minutes. Didn’t experience them until after I turned 30. It came at the same time that I started having acid reflux issues. Both now gone for the most part. Maybe I’ll experience a few minutes of it every couple of weeks but I’m fine and content. I hope for the best for everyone going through this.

@hani changed my diet almost completely. I only drink water, coconut water and sometimes beet juice with lemon juice added(high in potassium to stay hydrated). I don’t eat much fried foods anymore. Maybe fries or tots every now and then. I eat either a kale salad or celery every day. I stoped taking aspirin so often. Idk which it was but I haven’t had acid reflux badly in a while. I go walking 3-5 times a week. It’s sometimes 30 minutes and sometimes an hour. Haven’t had a panic attack in a while and if I feel like I might, I remind myself that it happened a ton and nothing came of it. I remind myself that I’m overreacting but it’s been a while. I know what it's like to be terrified of being ill with something. I think the most common one for people is to fear that they are experiencing a heart attack. For me, it's a fear of a brain tumor or schizophrenia. Doesn't help that I have a genetic migraine problem that has overlapping symptoms with my anxiety (both cause breathing problems, light-headedness, nausea, ect). Logically I know that it is unlikely that I have, or will have, either of these conditions in the near future. But my emotions don't seem to align with me intellectually.

I've been in therapy for months now. Panic attack, ptsd, ocd, ADHD, anxiety, depression, you name it.

I finally realised something. These aren't my diseases. These are my body's coping mechanisms.
The last time was in the verge of my panic attack. I told my racing heart "I realise you are fighting to keep me out of danger, thanks for protecting me alll these years. Iam safe now."
IT WORKED.
I am no expert. But it this helps someone, even one person, I would be really happy.

When I had my first panic attack, I thought I was having a heart🫀 attack. But being a man I never thought twice about it nor thought about seeing a physician, because it lastest for about a minute. Four months later that all change, after eating a can of boiled peanuts and a slice of cherry pie 🥧🍒 30 minutes later all the symptoms the female narrator mentioned in this video started to occur, but this time it continued on much much longer than the first time. My son rushed me to the emergency room where a doctor diagnosed me as having a "Panic Attack. My conclusion; I believe what I consumed that night triggered this Panic Attack. My diet which was not the greatest, was a wake up call for me. So eat right, stay away from salty processed foods and sweets. Good health to all of you reading this comment.
