Blood of the Fang

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

By the Christians, it is written
That in the black Myrthian age
There existed an addiction to blood, blood, blood, blood

Drink it up, fifty years 'bout enough, time to come back
They want to call the bluff
Ok then, time to come back (what up)
Hail King Huey, do it for fluid, you knew it was movin' forever
Knew it, the truth is, the movement was really too clever
Who is the newest to do it, pursuing a useless, polluted, agenda
Too long to get they bullshit together, fifty years 'bout enough (blood)
Patient, gave 'em a two year grace, '66 came, then they saw the true face
Black on black on black, irate
Had 'em all runnin' scared straight out the gate
Skin do show you who kin, that's it though
What's inside never been too simple
Syrup, he sip, cause he can't taste his own (blood)
Drink it up, drink it up
You belong in every milliliter of
They tried to take out every military leader but
He was born to be a martyr and it doesn't mean a thing because that body really meat
Fill it up, you history is when you might consider killing folk
This ain't the shit they taught you when you went to kindergarten
What you need to know is in the (blood)
Queen Angela done told y'all, grasp at the root
So what y'all talkin' 'bout, "Hands up, don't shoot"

Look back, blood on the ground
Look straight, they still shootin'
Jump back, still here
Now what that tell you bout death?
Death ain't shit, you got to

Drink it up, drink it up (there existed an addiction to blood, blood, blood)
Drink it up, drink it up
Drink it up, drink it up (there existed an addiction to blood, blood, blood)
Drink it up, drink it up

Fists in the sky if you ready, dice are all fair like confetti
They thought you was playin', though the game really was more trainin'
There finna be (blood)
And much of it blues
Time to fly, 'cause you know time fickle
So cold, fittin' to snow, swing a icicle
Takin' out a police or a politician, is you
Ain't the same as sayin' turnin' out a dime against a nickel
And it ain't just money, bee, this ain't honey
Sweet, but it's funny to think of them wantin' to speak
When this pain is deep and ingrained in (blood)

Drink it up, dress it down
Queen shit, wear the crown
King shit, wear the wounds
New blood in the wombs
Loose, loose, clear the tombs, bubble blue suede shoes
Lookin' like a who's who of the dead
Come back, bust a head
Run track to the red
Black suit, black hair, black wings, black stare
Black all for the (blood)
(Button up bruh)
Actin' a fool, or just actin'
You knew about adaptin' since you started tappin'
And in the dark, flappin' the full moon askin'
If you knew the passion that grew, what I'm askin'
'Cause they would never see in the basic
Surround 'em all, Eric or Gregory, but they faces
And every book, record, or CD, even made the MP3s laced with (blood)

Brother Malcolm done told y'all, "By any means"
So what y'all talkin' 'bout, "All on the same team?"

Look back, blood on the ground
Look straight, they still shootin'
Jump back, still here
Now what that tell you bout death?
Death ain't shit, you got to

Drink it up, drink it up (there existed an addiction to blood, blood, blood)
Drink it up, drink it up
Drink it up, drink it up (there existed an addiction to blood, blood, blood)
Drink it up, drink it up

Everybody want to kill a movement for the moment
But, they cannot kill what cannot die
There wasn't ever really an opponent
For what they figured was only three fifth human
And they thought they could enslave by disconnecting from the truth
Brother George is back again and never did look finest
It is time to gather up another meeting of the highness
That they couldn't kill him and America can't either
Man even sleep in to '71 anytime they beat her
Sip a little somethin'
Be up in the Cadillac with Little Bobby Hutton
Riding shotty with the shotty, swoopin' up the cousins
They so whoopin' for your blood, that Bobby Steele is on the door
When they regroup up at the club and brother
Eldridge is keepin' souls on ice 'til the time was just right, now suffices
Emery got the scene drawn up nice and Afeni here with Pac, yup thug life
Kathleen, black and beautiful, as the motto
Assada, up in here sippin' a bloody cafe Cubana
With Hilliard on the seat next to her, babysitting the ralo
Waiting for heron to say something fly and for them to follow
Into the night, let it swallow, eyes on the sparrow tomorrow
You know the marrow is hollow, and light as air and the call is out
To the rest of the model of effervescence
When all of it manifested, they never bothered to question
While calling for the arrest and murder
Guess they never knew it was a test to best assess the way to move in
Then digest the flesh of every wicked human
'Til the best and blackest blood is back to rulin'
Prince Stokely done told y'all, "have no fear"
So how come every time they be like "Yah, yah, yah"
Y'all look scared

Look back, blood on the ground
Look straight, they still shootin'
Jump back, still here
Now what that tell you bout death?
Death ain't shit, you got to

Drink it up, drink it up (there existed an addiction to blood, blood, blood)
Drink it up, drink it up

Drink it up, drink it up (there existed an addiction to blood, blood, blood, among it's people)
Drink it up, drink it up

Overall Meaning

The song "Blood of the Fang" by clipping. is a powerful and thought-provoking commentary on the historical and ongoing struggles faced by Black people in America. The lyrics explore the theme of blood addiction that symbolizes the centuries-long violence and oppression inflicted upon Black individuals. The reference to the Christians suggests that the addiction to blood is deeply ingrained in society and has been perpetuated throughout history.

The song highlights the resistance and resilience of Black individuals, referencing historical figures who have fought against racial injustice. It pays tribute to Huey Newton, the co-founder of the Black Panther Party, and activists such as Angela Davis and Malcolm X. These figures are portrayed as leaders who have spoken out against systemic racism and have urged others to grasp at the root of the problems and take radical action.

The lyrics also emphasize the idea that death is not the end and that the fight for justice and liberation continues. The repetition of the line "Death ain't shit, you got to" suggests that the struggle must go on, even in the face of violence and oppression. The song challenges the notion that killing or silencing leaders will put an end to the movement, asserting that it cannot be killed because it embodies a timeless and indomitable spirit.

Overall, "Blood of the Fang" serves as a powerful call to action, urging listeners to confront the injustices in society, acknowledge the history of violence against Black people, and actively participate in the ongoing fight for liberation.

It amazes me how the Hamilton fan base is almost completely unaware of clipping’s existence and in some cases even vice versa

vixx mixx

I listen to both 😂I also tried to get my best friend (She like a bunch of musicals) to listen to clipping but failed ._.

Joseph Stalin

@vixx mixx have you tried splendor & misery? That album has great story telling and isn't as harsh as midcity

BabyCakes123

I listened to Clppng for like a year before I knew bout Hamilton lol

Sara V

I'm part of the vice versa, I was so confused by the Hamilton comments and I still don't know who Daveed was in the play...

TeaInTheMorning4929

Everyone rightly gives Daveed a lot of attention, and he’s incredible on this album, but I am in awe of the oppressive atmosphere and the insane noises that Bill and Jonathan are able to come up with.

Victor the Kid

"insane noises"

Great reduction of what's stellar and groundbreaking musical production and sound design.

@Victor the Kid lolol ur not wrong but the elitism in music fandoms is cringe bro how can u expect everyone to know terms beyond general knowledge especially if theyre not involved in music at all its rly incredible how yall can find someone saying something positive and still find something wrong with the comment jeez

KidAmnesiak

I agree, but they seem to prefer being in the background and having Daveed be the face of the act. They're conspicuously absent from most videos and visuals, that seems deliberate.
