Lyrically, clipping.βs music attempts to reshuffle and repeat accepted rap scenarios, while eliminating a traditional single-point perspective. Diggsβs writing is heavily citational, like a rough-edged collage, gluing together half-glimpsed images and misremembered references, many of which might feel familiar, and some of which assuredly do not. But even while he consumes and regurgitates established styles, his self-erasure is incomplete; Diggsβs dense, often motormouthed flow remains wholly his own.
Individually, the members are known outside of the group for their extra-curricular artistic projects. Diggs is a stage actor, while Snipes composes music for film, and Hutson is an established noise music artist. Snipes and Hutson have collaborated on many projects, including the score to the documentary Room 237, which was released by IFC in 2013.
In February 2013, clipping. released their debut album, Midcity, on their website. The project was created entirely in-house, with the trio writing, producing, engineering, mixing and mastering all of the material themselves. There was no budget, no outside promotion, no hype-machine, no blog or label interest. In fact, clipping. had no expectation that anyone would bother listening to the album, let alone enjoy it. Nevertheless, reactions were largely positiveβ despite the uncompromising nature of the production, and its obfuscatory lyrical contentβ and within five monthβs of Midcityβs release, clipping. signed a deal with Sub Pop Records.
CLPPNG, the bandβs label debut, was written and recorded between February and October of 2013. Highly well-received, CLPPNG is an album that demonstrates the variety of sounds available when the βrulesβ of a genre are willfully questioned.

Pain Everyday

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Time spent floating above is
The body done when the hurt start
They call it passin', that's not it, they lying
Fuck them alters and headstones
Who they think all them flowers for?
Can't smell nothing, you just bones
They cry a little less every hour so
The end when everything began
Deaths scars looking like birth marks
Take for granted they free standing y'all should
Grab one right by the dream space
Make one scream until she prays
Make one run until he dead
Make one break until they leave the body
Hurts see the body gone, so, who body?
Make up for all the wrongs done to bodies
They keep singing they songs while your body rot
Well, fuck it, come on
They gotta pay
Chase the dreamer, chase the dreamer
Fuck it up
Shake the dreamer, shake the dreamer
Wake it up and that will
Make the dreamer hate the dreamer
Cut it up
Break the dream, awake the demon
Run it up then you can
Get into the head
Where they try make sense of senses start they sixth
Let 'em know the dead levitating
Just ahead and they best not slip
Just because you bled out
Doesn't mean you ever left and that's that shit
They been running scared
And then telling all the secrets don't that sound like
Snitch behavior, snitch behavior
Zip it up
Kiss the fear simply savor
Lick it up that taste like
Wishes made by twisted prayers
Rip it up
Split the vision, lynch the savior
Get the guts then you will
Grab one right by the dream space
Make one scream until she prays
Make one run until he dead
Make one break until they leave the body
Hurts see the body gone, so, who body?
Makes up for all the wrongs done to bodies
They keep singing they songs while your body rot
Well, fuck it, come on
They gotta pay
All the living sweating the afterlife but ain't nothing
Afterlife but the pain from the way you died and something
Reminiscent of hunger but if you had a stomach
Only satiated by making somebody run
See that
To the edge of the screen in the video
Hear that
Hissing way in the back of the track
Be that
You can live in the glitch of the digital
They fear that
They should fear that
They gon' fear that you are
Here forever here forever
Fuck it up
Missed the moment end is never
Gonna come, you stuck so
Make the most you make the omens
Leave the gun
Watch the mortals blow they brains out
That was fun, that's why you
Grab one right by the dream space
Make one scream until she prays
Make one run until he dead
Make one break until they leave the body
Hurts see the body gone, so, who body?
Makes up for all the wrongs done to bodies
They keep singing they songs while your body rot
Well, fuck it, come on
They gotta pay
The song "Pain Everyday" by clipping. feat. Michael Esposito is a morbidly poetic description of the afterlife and the pain that comes with death. The lyrics suggest that death itself is not the most painful part, but rather the time spent floating above it. The song accuses those who mourn of hypocrisy, pointing out that they put flowers on graves but cannot smell them, and that they cry a little less every hour. The lyrics also touch on the concept of revenge, with the singer urging the listener to make those who have done wrong to them suffer.
The song then shifts its focus to the living, who are described as "sweating the afterlife" and trying to make sense of their senses. The dead are said to be levitating, and the living are warned not to slip. The lyrics suggest that the pain of the afterlife is reminiscent of hunger, and that it can only be satiated by causing others to run or suffer. The song ends with a call to action, urging the listener to grab hold of their dreams and make those who have wronged them pay.
Overall, "Pain Everyday" is a bleak but insightful look at death and revenge. It paints a picture of a world where pain is the norm and revenge is the only way to find relief.

@agentbankrupt
I just realized that this song references TEAATB songs:
Make one scream until she pray
(All in your head)
Make one run until he dead
(He dead)
Make one break until they leave
The body hurts, see the body gone
(Attunement)

Donβt forget Clppng and Splendor and Misery
@DrewTheChild
But I get what your sayin
@michaelhutchings8599
@SuperPickle Self titled was ridiculous. Had it on vinyl til a friend "borrowed it."
@griffinbatcheller8659
@SuperPickle damn didnβt even realize that, wasnβt a fan quite yet when Splendor and Misery came out. They really donβt miss
@DrewTheChild
@Michael Hutchings You serious? My homie had that shit and it was stolen from his school bag
@keinname1896
That outro is insane. LIke, the whole song is, Daveed kills it, but everything after 2:50 is just ridiculous.
@vedant4226
Goes full squarepusher from that point on....fire.
@cloudyview
I recognize the drum sample, but I can't place it... It's not squarepusher... Maybe aphex twin though?
@vedant4226
@cloudyview I'm positive its not sampled, instead produced by them. Such drum sequences are quite common within the Jungle/Breakcore styles.
Also the track you recall might be Vatican Snares - Hajnal
