In Cuppy's song "Green Light," the singer is expressing their desires and admiration for someone they are attracted to. They ask the person to "whine it" and "roll it commando," which seem to be sexual commands. They promise to follow the person wherever they go and state that they've never felt a love like this before. The chorus reiterates the singer's desire for the person to dance, roll, and whine for them.
The pre-chorus, "awonpe nipe awonpe tuncheni dance oh baby oh / ifini makon dunche softly roll it baby oh," is in Yoruba, a language spoken in Nigeria. It translates to "they say they want them, they say they want to dance, oh baby, oh / if you're going to move, move it softly, oh baby." This nod to Yoruba culture and language highlights Cuppy's Nigerian roots and the influence it has on her music.
The singer also expresses their desire not to be alone and begs the person to tease and please them. The bridge, "girl you look so fine when did you put it on / come close come whine for the Don," further emphasizes the sexual desire the singer has. The song concludes with the repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the singer's desire for the person's love.
Overall, "Green Light" is a catchy and upbeat song that mixes Nigerian culture with contemporary lyrics and beats. It reflects Cuppy's love for music and desire to infuse it with her Nigerian roots.
