Solamente hay que ser realista
(Daddy!)
You know me, man, Daddy Yankee alias El Cangriman
Santifica tus escapularios
Evite moretones caballero, acepte
Santifica tus escapularios
Evite moretones caballero, acepte
Que no es nadie ya
(Quítate tú pa' ponerme yo)
Ja
You know, man
In "Santifica Tus Escapularios," Daddy Yankee is reflecting on his personal success, and expressing his frustration with those who try to compete with him. He starts off by saying that it's not about ego, but rather being realistic about his talent. He claims that he is one of the best MCs who has blessed the microphone in the island. He is mature and focused, as his upbringing in the barrio taught him to be. Then, he goes on to criticize those who try to act like superheroes by the use of a metaphor, asking when it became okay for them to fly with an "S" on their chest. He has seen many like them, braggarts who ultimately fall short of their promises. He describes himself as a gentle as a dove and cunning as a serpent in navigating the island of death he lives in. He also references his reputation as a veteran artist with a blessed record, having made six productions and 70 appearances, averaging over 130 songs. He ends this portion by acknowledging that he cannot be defeated, and that his flow improbably feels fresh every time he sings.
Daddy Yankee goes on to encourage his rivals to stop fighting against him as if they were horses in his hipódromo (hippodrome), and that he is the commander who slays at the auditorium. He calls himself the chef of chemistry in the laboratory and goes on to describe his cleverness as the perfect mix of intellect and nefariousness. He uses poetic language to talk about how he produces pure material for the streets, and how his hits blocked others' from making sales. He then boldly states that it doesn't matter how famous one is, because power poles are taller, and dogs piss on them. He repeats the chorus, warning his competitors that unless they sanctify themselves with their religious charms, they will not stand the test of time as he has.
