Ready For Love
daltrey roger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Turning your back on yesterday
See you dance into another man's arms
But I'm not sure if you've emotion left at all
And if by chance you happen to find the right one

Who could give his heart
Will you run him 'round in circles
Or let yourself fall?
Tell me friend

Are you ready for love?
Are you ready for love?

I know someone hurt you bad
And now you're wary, lock those fears away
But ain't it time you stopped running away from pain?
'cause if you don't you'll only go and hurt another

Make him leave you too
Then you'll turn around and say
Hey look, I'm the victim again
Oh, tell me friend

Are you ready for love?
Are you ready for love?
Are you ready for love?

And if by chance he happens to be the right one
Who could give his heart
Will to tell him what you're feeling?
Oh, ask yourself

Are you ready for love?

Are you ready for love?
Are you ready for love?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Daltrey Roger's song "Ready For Love" explore the theme of emotional readiness for love, and the fear associated with opening oneself up to the possibility of being hurt again. The singer begins by describing someone who is turning their back on their past and dancing into another man's arms, yet they question whether this person has any emotion left at all. The singer doubts whether this person is capable of allowing themselves to fall in love, or if they'll just run the person around in circles. They ask whether this person is truly ready for love.

The lyrics continue by acknowledging that the person has previously been hurt badly, and as a result, has become wary of allowing themselves to feel any pain again. However, the singer urges this person to stop running away from the possibility of love and to confront their fears, asking if they're truly ready for love, or if they'll end up hurting another person in the same way they were hurt. The singer then poses the question to the person, asking whether they're truly ready for love, and whether they'll be able to tell the right person how they're feeling.

Overall, the lyrics present a poignant message about the importance of emotional readiness when it comes to love, and the fear that can be associated with opening oneself up to vulnerability.

Was great when it came out and is still great today. Give Daltrey credit for getting totally away from the Who thing and picking great songs from great writers, with kick ass arrangements and an incredible delivery. I don't know how successful this was BITD, though I owned it then, but it was quite a gamble for an artist to stray from their comfort zone. He did it magnificently.

Not only is Daltreys voice amazing but hats off to Russ Ballard for an awesome song with all of his trademark qualities like the distortion crazy flanging on the solo truly amazing!

I purchased "Ride a Rock Horse" in about 1975 while in my early teens. It is a thing of rare beauty. I still, forty years later, have it reverberating in my mind.
