Film
deLillos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

For det er søndag klokken kvart over fem
Og mannen ser på sin mobil igjen
Og gutten sitter stille og uttrykksløs
Men virker likevel temmelig nervøs

Mens gutten klosset mister sitt bestikk
Og mannen tramper takten liksom for å si
At de to tross alt har det ganske hyggelig

At de faktisk har det hyggelig
At de to sammen har det hyggelig

Overall Meaning

The song "Film" by deLillos depicts a scene in a restaurant where a young boy and an older man, possibly a father and son, sit silently eating from a taco buffet while the world around them seems to pay little attention. However, the lyrics suggest that something is off about the situation. The father keeps checking his mobile phone, while the boy appears nervous and expressionless. The lyrics also suggest the possibility of a missing or dead mother, or even a murderer and a terrified son, adding a layer of suspense to the scene. Despite all of this, the two seem to be enjoying each other's company, with the man tapping his feet to the music on the radio and the boy dropping his utensils in a clumsy manner. Ultimately, the song raises questions about what may be happening beneath the surface of seemingly normal situations.

The use of film as a metaphor in the song is significant. By comparing the scene to a film, the lyrics suggest that there is more going on than what meets the eye, and that there is a sense of disconnect between the surface appearance and what is actually happening. This disconnect creates tension and raises the listener's curiosity. The fact that the father and son are eating tacos in a tacky restaurant also adds a layer of significance, as it suggests that something that may seem mundane or even unimportant can be part of a larger, more mysterious picture.

Great movie! It's an exaggerated snapshot of the 1980s but none the less very interesting.

As a kid in the 1980s, I can attest to it's stunning attention to detail, all the vehicles, wardrobe, especially the design of the products in the grocery store, even down to those "generic" brands was spot on.

A penchant for the dispassionate analysis of everything characterizes the dialogue, as the chemical spill became a toxic plume then finally "a toxic airborne event".

Every character has their moment of interesting insight, where for a brief shining moment they wax almost philosophical about a topic, subject, social conventions, etc

One can trace influences from National Lampoon's vacation (fun with station wagon), a little Simpsons (driving through cornfield then hard turn to dirt road), some Jim Jones (dark sunglasses), etc

From what others have commented the book may be good, I'll check it out. And to think I confused Don Dellilo with Dom DeLuise

Honestly this is a perfect trailer. It hooked me immediately and showcases so many amazing scenes from the movie without feeling like it's spoiling too much. Wishing for the best and hoping that the movie delivers.

This movie is not what you would expect it to be, no matter whether you base your expectations on this trailer, the first chapter of the movie, or even the second chapter ... and you probably won't quite know what this movie was when the end credits roll. It is wonderful.

I'm glad that Greta Gerwig is back doing acting. I'm glad that she got enough recognition for her writing and directing talent but as for acting, she's very underrated. Maggie's Plan, Frances Ha and Mistress America are some of her best acting work so to see her act again in this should be amazing

Misstress America is one of my favourite films! I wish it was more talked about.

Jack Transue

I believe you're forgetting her true best performance: China, IL

I don’t know if I was just going through something at the time but I deeply loathed Frances ha. I remember being so grumpy leaving the theatre lol I thought it was the most pretentious garbage I’d ever seen at the time. Really put me off Greta as an actress for years-

But I’m willing to give this a go! Looks great :)
