Writing songs and melodies comes natural to every musical human being but the difference is how well you mix the theory with the feeling, love and dedication which "degreed" have found the balance in. Recording the debut album is just the beginning... Putting “degreed” on the map and become a hard working, touring rock band is what follows!
Robin Ericsson - Sång / Bas
Mats Ericsson - Trummor
Micke Jansson - Keyboard
Jesper Adefelt - Gitarr / Sång
Daniel Johansson - Gitarr / Sång
What If
degreed Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But it's easier to remember
Memories are haunting me
It seems easier to surrender
What if there is no tomorrow?
Give me a reason to live
What if the future is hollow?
Don't know who I am
But it's hard to pretend
Don't know where I am
But it's close to the end
What if there is no tomorrow?
Give me a reason to live
What if the future is hollow?
Give me a reason to live
What if there is no tomorrow?
Give me a reason to live
One more day and I drift her away
Tell me why it hurt
One more day and the Heaven fades to grey
I can't get out
What if there is no tomorrow?
Give me a reason to live
What if the future is hollow?
Give me a reason to live
What if there is no tomorrow?
Give me a reason to live
What if the future is hollow?
Give me a reason to live
The opening lines of "Trying to forget, But it's easier to remember" show a sense of ambiguity and almost hopelessness, depicting someone who is stuck in the past, trying to move on but unable to. The person's memories are represented as haunting them, which indicates that they may be dealing with some sort of trauma, and they feel the urge to give up or surrender. The chorus then poses some of life's biggest questions - what if there is no tomorrow? What if the future is hollow? The person is searching for reasons to hold on to life and stay alive, suggesting they may be experiencing depression or a dire situation in their life.
The second verse starts with "Don't know who I am, But it's hard to pretend, Don't know where I am, But it's close to the end." It shows how the person is grappling with their identity and feeling lost in life. They feel like they are pretending or faking their way through life, taking us deeper into the metaphorical hole that they have fallen into. The lyrics in the final verse show that the person may have lost someone they loved, creating a void that they struggle to fill no matter what they do. The song ends on the same haunting questions from the chorus, emphasizing that the person is still searching for a reason, a purpose to keep living.

Simply brilliA few years ago i had averse feelings towards modern sounding music, because i am an old school melodic rock fan. Nowadays Degreed is one of my fave bands, i damn like the incredible melodies, and damn like the technically perfect, modern sounding. And that repeating rhythm pattern under the second verse when "Don't know where I am...". Simply brilliant. Just can repeat myslef :)
