Sometimes it's almost too much to stand,
Sometimes it feels overwhelming.

But it's not my place to take you in hand.
I cannot control others' actions.

It used to be a man and his madness
In the past, a man's craziness was respected and celebrated.

Were as sacred as the coming of day.
It was a sacred and natural part of life.

It's strange how things will stick in the mind.
It's strange that certain memories are hard to forget.

You'd think the years would leave them behind,
You would think that as time passes, old memories would be forgotten.

But long ago moments as a winner
Memories of past achievements can be especially vivid.

Kind of push the recent memories aside.
Recent memories can be overshadowed by older, more significant memories.

Symptomatic, you say, of old age,
Some people might say that this is a sign of aging.

But it's something that nobody can gage.
But there is no one way to measure this sort of thing.

It may be that I've sorted out the memories I can keep
Perhaps I have chosen which memories to cherish and discard the rest.

And thrown the others away.
I have let go of those memories I don't want to hold onto.

There's some who would say, "Just let him sit and decay",
Some people might say I'm old and should just sit back and not do anything.

But I really can't believe that it's true.
But I don't believe that's how I should spend my time.

There's bits of yourself you always have to live up to
There are certain expectations that you have to meet.

If only for a moment or two!
Even if it's just for a brief moment.

There's little time to spend sitting down,
There's not enough time in life to waste it sitting around.

When feeling good means moving around,
Feeling good is often associated with physical movement.

And I can't be blamed if I remember my name
It's important for me to remember who I am.

And why it made me so proud.
And why I was proud to be me.

At my age I do as I choose,
As an older person, I have earned the right to do what I want.

And shouldn't need to make an excuse.
I don't have to explain my actions to anyone.

I know that you all feel a little famous inside
We all have moments when we feel special.

And I'm no different than you.
I am just like everyone else who experiences that feeling.
