Intertwined
dodie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Skin
Heat
Hair in your mouth
Feet touching feet

Oh you
And I
Safe from the world
Though the world will try

Oh, I'm afraid of the things in my brain
But we can stay here
And laugh away the fear

Numb
Fine
You create a rarity of my genuine smiles

So breathe
Breathe with me
Can you drink all my thoughts
Cause I can't stand them
Ooh, oh
O-oh, oh, oh

Intertwined
Free
I've pinned each and every hope on you
I hope you don't bleed with me

I'm afraid of the things in my brain
But we can stay here
And laugh away the fear

Hmm, hmm
Hmhmm

Overall Meaning

The song Intertwined by Dodie is a love song that explores the feeling of being safe with someone special. The opening lyrics are simple yet evocative in setting the intimacy and closeness of a moment shared. The mention of "Skin, Heat, Hair in your mouth, Feet touching feet" immediately brings to mind the physical sensations that come from being physically close with another person. The next line, "Oh you and I, safe from the world" sets the tone for the rest of the song, that in this moment, nothing else matters but the two people together. However, the line "though the world will try" hints at the struggles that the couple might face as they navigate their relationship.

As the song progresses, the singer speaks candidly about their anxiety and fears, stating "Oh, I'm afraid of the things in my brain." Despite this, the singer still feels safe and secure with their partner, stating "But we can stay here and laugh away the fear." This sentiment beautifully encapsulates the feelings of comfort that a loving relationship can bring, even in the face of our most profound anxieties.

The chorus, "Intertwined, Free, I've pinned each and every hope on you, I hope you don't bleed with me" is a poignant reminder of how deep and interconnected love can be. In this moment, the singer is expressing not just physical closeness but emotional closeness as well. There's an underlying sense of vulnerability in these lyrics, as the singer acknowledges that when we love someone deeply, their pain is our pain, and their joy is our joy.

ok i think i kinda get it now. this is about how when you are so "intertwined" with someone, and the relationship eventually falls apart, everything becomes strange and different. i don't think this is about actual barbie murder. it's a representation of how loving sometimes changes you (barbie cutting her hair). the first time i heard this song i thought it was about being afraid of your problems becoming someone else's. i think that's what the video is about. they had too many problems, but they were so intertwined that when they finished their relationship, they weren't the same person as they were before. beautiful.

That's a really good interpretation. It makes a lot of sense.

I think the video represent what you're saying, and what Dodie thinks the song is. She made a video about it where she explains how she and a guy (Sammy) were in a relationship and then they broke up, but they still want to be happy and friends
