Too much too soon time to slip away tired of all your words this is all I have to say I am this I am that but I am so much more why must you make me feel like I have to prove myself why can't you accept me for the man I am so fuck you if you don't like what you see you are no one to question me I don't care if you believe in me I am exactly who I want to be if only you would climb off your throne maybe you'd see me maybe you'd believe in me I am not a confused stumbling little child I never asked for your permission I don't need your approval and I don't gauge my happiness on what you think is right cause when I'm standing on top of the world remembering how it felt everytime that you walked away all I wanted to tell you all I wanted say was fuck you if you don't like what you see.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Fuck You" by Downpore showcase the frustration and resentment of the singer towards someone who constantly belittles them and questions their worth. The song opens with lines that depict the singer being overwhelmed and exhausted by the other person's constant criticisms and judgments. They have had enough of being made to feel like they need to prove themselves and want the other person to accept them for who they are. This idea is further emphasized in the chorus, with the singer proclaiming that they don't care for the other person's beliefs or opinions; they are going to be the person they want to be and the other person can deal with it.

Furthermore, the lyrics also highlight the power dynamics between the two individuals. The other person is portrayed as thinking they are superior and on a "throne," while the singer is seen as a "confused stumbling little child," according to the other person's perception. However, the singer wants to break free from this oppressive dynamic and show the other person that they are not going to be held down by their negativity. The singer's confidence and self-assuredness shine through towards the end of the song, as they describe standing on top of the world and remembering how the other person walked away, all the while thinking, "fuck you if you don't like what you see."

Overall, "Fuck You" by Downpore is a powerful anthem of standing up for oneself and not letting others tear you down. Its lyrics contain a message of self-acceptance and self-love, encouraging listeners to be true to themselves despite any judgment or negativity they may face from others.

I have all their albums.
I remember working in a bar in Queens, New York, where the bartender was friend with the band.
He introduced me to Downpore's music.
I saw them performing at CBGB's in the early 2000s. How bad they're not together anymore.
