62回転
downy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Downy's song "62回転" symbolize the ephemerality of the autumn season and the unpredictability of life. The theme of "暴走 (bousou)," which means recklessness or losing control, is reflected in the beginning line "暴走しそうな秋が過ぎて行く (bousou shisouna aki ga sugiteyuku)" where the singer is witnessing an uncontrollable loss of life as if autumn is speeding away too fast. The "鉄の直感 (tetsu no chokkan)" or the intuition of iron represents the fleetingness of life as well, which is gone in the blink of an eye. The chorus signifies the invasion of external factors, represented by "食欲が侵入です (shokuyoku ga shinnyu desu)" or appetite is an invasion, that can make one lose control - hence the comparison to the season of autumn.

The second verse is about a sense of longing, which is reflected in the line "未練の足が疾走 (miren no ashi ga shissou)" or my nostalgia is sprinting away. The singer's "呼ぶ者を留めずに (yobumono wo todomenu ni)," or the ones who call & beckon them, are not held back, signifying a sense of detachment from the surroundings. Lastly, the singer "嘔吐する (outo suru)," which means to vomit, in response to words that are like numbers that come out automatically, in contrast to an emotional outpour which is reflective of the detachment from reality. The final line, "好い天気、機嫌はいかが (ii tenki kigen wa ikaga)," which means, good weather, how do you feel? The line signifies the mundane nature of life that carries on regardless of one's emotions, as if the singer is asking the world if it is at least okay amid all the chaos.
