dr feel good Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Boom-boom, boom-boom
Gonna shoot you right down
Right off your feet
Take you home with me
Put you in my house
Boom-boom, boom-boom
Ow-ow-ow-ow
Mmh-mmh-mmh-mmh
I love to see you strut
Up and down my floor
When you talk to me
That baby talk
I like it like that
Boom-boom, boom-boom
Gonna shoot you right down
Right off your feet
Take you home with me
Put you in my house
Boom-boom, boom-boom
When you walk that walk
And you talk that talk
And you whisper in my ear
Tell me that you love me
I love that talk

When you talk like that
You knock me out

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dr. Feel Good's song BoomBoom are those of a man who is infatuated with a woman and feels a sexual attraction to her. He is fixated with her strut, her baby talk, and the way she whispers in his ear. He wants to take her home, where he presumably can indulge in his sexual desires. The man also expresses the power that he feels over the woman by saying that he's going to shoot her 'right down', which can be interpreted as his ability to take control of the situation.

The lyrics cannot be taken at face value, however. There is a deeper meaning behind them that is pertinent to the time period of the song's release. BoomBoom was released in 1961, in the midst of America's sexual revolution. In this context, the lyrics can be seen as a man's desire to break free from societal norms and indulge in his primal sexual desires. Dr. Feel Good's lyrics can be seen as a call to arms for men, as they invite them to embrace their sexuality and empower them to 'shoot down' women and take control of their sexuality.

I love how these guys always looked like the villains in an early Michael Caine film. RIP Wilko.

I always loved the harmonica in a blues band. Raw and vibrant. Wilko’s guitar style made the perfect accompaniment to Lee’s punchy, stabbing vocals and harp…

Lee Brilleaux was just a bundle of endless energy, barely constrained by his suit. Awesome. Such a shame he's gone.

"barely constrained by his suit" wins the "describe Lee Brilleax in no more than 5 words" competition.
