My people get no break, di buffalo soldier
Whoa it's a shame how they activate the subconscious brain,
Flocking sheep not questioning a thing it confuses me here I swear, ooh
World of confusion got us on lockdown
Mi see the game can you see it now
World of confusion got us on lockdown
Watch it dread, facial recognition
World of confusion got us on lockdown
Dem wanna chip me for food why now
Social media and TV got dem stuck In,
A constant vortex with no way out life just rush dem,
People soo sick inside di mind at times it numb dem
Stating opinions without facts just cause destruction

Who say dat fear brings no courage is a fool there my oh my
Whoa it's a shame how they activate the subconscious brain
Flocking sheep not questioning a thing it confuses me here I swear, ooh
World of confusion got us on lockdown
Mi see the game can you see it now
World of confusion got us on lockdown
Watch it dread, facial recognition

World of confusion got us on lockdown
Dem wanna chip me for food why now

@EpreTroll yeah it's basically just the letter is the starting triad, then u add numbers for any extra notes, which are the notes of that scale. So for C the 7th would be B, then add 9 would be D, 11 would be F, and 13 would be A. They usually don't go further than that. Then sharp or flat for each of those notes if u want to sharpen or flatten each one of those notes up or down a half step. U can also do that to 5ths, like a Cmaj7 sharp 5, or Cmin7#5 (# means sharp, lowercase b means flat), one of which is a shuffled around diminished chord.

That brings me to diminished and augmented chords. The first is a stack of 4 minor thirds (for the 7th chord, only 3 notes for the diminished triad) and the second a stack of 3 major thirds. And both circle back around to themselves so they are symmetrical in every position. Kinda like super minor and super major but not really. Diminished is arguably the most dissonant and dark that it's not really just sad anymore, and augmented is so bright and symmetrical with no real root that it feels unstable or "floaty" and kinda mysterious, and it has the min 6th interval which some people call "sour" sounding. And because they are symmetrical and just one interval, any note can be the root (bottom note which the other note intervals are measured relative to). They also have scales after them which are pretty cool. Octatonic scale for diminished chords and whole tone scale for augmented.

Also just how there are different types of triads, major and minor, there are different kinds of 7th chords, with the 4 notes. Except now there's 4 (cannon ones at least) cuz more combinations. Major 7th, minor 7th, minor-major 7th (which is actually just shuffled around version of one of the other ones but I forgot), and dominant 7th. Diminished 7th is kinda it's own thing like I said and augmented can't have 7th (using third intervals, which is how these chords are mostly built, but that doesn't mean we have to follow it) because 3 major thirds is enough to wrap around the octave, so u can't fit any more thirds and by extensions more notes in there.

Major 7ths are major chords with a maj 7 interval, so the note right below the octave. Minor chords are minor chords with a minor 7th interval. Minor-major u can guess, is a minor chord with a major 7th note. And the Dominant 7th is arguably the most important chord in music theory, which is a major chord with a minor 7th. That's because the minor 7th or flat 7th, same thing, creates a very dissonant tritone interval with the major 3rd note, but if u move each note a half step in opposite directions, it resolves very smoothly into the stable tonic or "I" (1) chord. So that's how it's used in Classical, while in Jazz they actually like to keep it there and play around with the dissonance and unstable feeling because they like to spice it up.

That just leaves sus chords, which stands for suspended, but also maybe substitution, because you just substitute the 3rd (which is the second note of the chord, because it goes 1 3 5 7 ect) for either the 2nd or 4th note (intervals), like Csus2 (C, D, G) or Csus4 (C, F, G), or Csus2/4 (yes u can do that) (C, D, F, G). Usually just to bring it back to the 3rd for like a mini resolution sound. But also u can keep the dissonance if u want for effect, it's ur music.

U can also add 6ths, for a 6th chord. I really like 6ths. Or in other chords too tho idk how that's notated.

And if u ever see a "/" in the music, like C/G, or E/C, that just means it's a C chord with a G note in the bass, or E with C in the bass, ect.

Hope that helps! 😁

There are infinite keys IMO. You have the major and minor keys, tallying up to 30, but then you also have compositions like Nardis which definitely aren't just major or minor, they're modal. Nardis is a phrygian composition, and if A minor and C major both have the same notes, but are different keys, then E phrygian should be considered a different key as well in my opinion.

So to start off, you'd have 15 keys, times 7, 105 keys.

But then like Adam explained, there are keys like G# major that use the doublesharp. You won't see most of those keys in use, but in theory, you could have the key of Gbbbb, and then all of it's 7 modes as different keys.

It's just purely theoretical though, there's no reason for keys like Gbbbb other than the educational value of understanding how flats and sharps work and learning notation.

When I went to music school, my theory teacher would have us write down the note for a triple augmented second from the note of Ab or something similar. Confusing at first, but it really simplified everything else once you understood it.

Also, if you ever do see G#, the composer's been mean IMO, even if it's derived from C# in the composition, much simpler to start from Db, but maybe the composer wants to hear the musician struggle.

@Ste Ffen yet, cumbia does not originate in Mexico.

Luis

@Ste Ffen Yeah, adam was better off saying latin america rather than south america. But if I am being honest, the prevalence of cumbia in mexico does not guarantee it's popularity over other countries. For every regional style of cumbia in mexico like sureste, sonidera, norteña, there are dozens of other styles in all of the other countries in latin america.

Drake Silmore

That's cool and all, but could you please repeat the part where you said where I could find trombone in metal. I need that.

Hi Adam!
Santé has a double meaning here. It can mean “health” but it’s also used as “cheers”. That can explain the almost “drunken” vibe from the synth.

Lachlan Russell

@herlocksholmes1888 there’s 3 types of drink-clink word or phrase that almost every single culture on earth uses: to happiness, to alcohol, and to health. English’s is to happiness with cheers, as is the Swedish Geonbae Skål. Salute, Saúde, prosit, and sante are to health. Avoiding euro-centrism, the Korean Geonbae and its Chinese and Japanese variants mean “let’s empty the glass”, however is generally considered a proclamation of joy as well. There are many variations, but they seem to fall into those 3 categories. The only real exception I’ve been able to find is the herbrew “l’chaim”, which is a toast to life, and depending on your definition fits into the health category.

nightspicer

@herlocksholmes1888 fun fact, you can also use that in English (it's just not used anymore really). A good example is a shanty "Here's a Health to the Company"
