Hold that train
I got to get on board
Hold that train
I got to get on board
Well, my baby she don't love me, she'll love me this time for sure

Hold that train
I got to ride it tonight
Hold that train
I got to ride it tonight
Oh, me and my baby, we just had a big fight

Well I live my baby, love her with all my heart
I don't know why we had to part
Hold that train
I got to ride it tonight
I said, me and my baby, we just had a big fight
Hold that train

Hold that train
I got to get on board
Hold that train
I got to get on board
Cause the woman she don't love me, she'll love me this time for sure

Well it was early in the morning, about the break of day
I know my baby, she was sleeping away
Hold that train
I got to ride it tonight
Well, my woman she don't love me 'cause we had a big fight

Hey
Hold that train
Hold that train
Hold that train

Hold that train
Hold that train
All aboard?
Next stop, Chicago
Hold that train

Hold that train
One, two, three, yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Last Train to Clarksville" by Ed Bruce is a ballad about a man who is leaving his lover behind and taking the last train out of town. He encourages her to join him for one more night together before he leaves, promising coffee-flavored kisses and conversation. The urgency in his voice suggests that their time together is running out and that he is unsure if he will ever return. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the theme of departure and uncertainty.

The song's lyrics are notable for their use of everyday language and relatable themes. The idea of a last train out of town is a common trope in American folk music and represents the idea of leaving one's troubles behind and starting over. Additionally, the mention of coffee-flavored kisses is a clever metaphor for a bittersweet goodbye.

"Last Train to Clarksville" was released in 1966 as the debut single for the Monkees, an American pop-rock group. The song was a huge commercial success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and launching the Monkees to stardom. The Monkees went on to record a number of hit singles and albums, but "Last Train to Clarksville" remains one of their most enduring and beloved songs.

Nice job Tom. I remember trains on a shelf. Nice to see Ed and Sid taking part. 😂

@cameronebert4454

All of a sudden, Ed and Sid found themselves vanishing from the 77C universe as Theo and Otto fired the Tau Cannon on them. They called for help, but it was too late. Ed and Sid had now been teleported into the real world where they couldn’t find their railway and couldn’t speak to other engines because the real life preserved engines couldn’t communicate with them. With fear being the only emotion they could feel, Ed and Sid set off in search of a way home.

@NorthernSoulExpress
