Bought the Big Green 7 yrs ago and can't recommend it for
longevity. At the end of the 2 yr warranty period, the clean solution tank
began to leak. At first, just a small leak running down the back of the vac.
But by year 4, a small river that I had to mop off the hardwood when cleaning
the area rug that also wasted a lot of cleaning solution. A year ago, the motor
started making clanking noises, then electrical burning smell. No more Big
Green. So, 6 yrs use out of it. Which may sound like a long time, but it was
used in one house every 2-3 mos to clean an area rug + 1 pc of upholstered
furniture. A commercial grade vac ought to last longer than that. When it
worked, it did a good job, but the leaking in year 3 dimmed my enthusiasm for
the BG. After a similar experience w/ a Pet Pro (not working after only 3
uses!), going to try Rug Dr. I used to rent RD; they clean well, but not sure
on the longevity issue.

Wow ty for sharing. There was another reviewer who did a review on the rug dr and endorsed the big green more. He also recommended the revolution too by Bissell.

I’m googling the following:

Tineco carpet one and iCarpet
Bissell big green
Rug doctor pro deep commercial

I’m prob going to have to rent the latter two to compare.

As someone starting a cleaning company I found while testing out different carpet cleaners over months the Bissell Big Green the best bang for your buck. Not only is it cheaper it is also far superior to models at the same price and you are right on with your analysis in comparing the two.

@Mulzceo I have read them but reading them and experiencing is two separate things plus they have high reviews so yeah we are using it now to test out different scenarios and yeah this machine is a great one for starting out.

@Mulzceo plus I'm only going to be using it for the first year or so til we can afford one that is higher end that will last longer but still use it as a backup if the main one breaks down and needs repairs

Have you tried the rug doctor pro? Compared to the big green?

I need to clean my carpet today and now I know which one to use. Thank you for a great and informative review!

Update I used Bissel and my carpet looks amazing. It pulled out so many stains and my carpet is several shades lighter. I definitely recommend it

I got a Big Green to replace my old ProHeat 2x. It blows it away in every way possible. It deep cleans better, it sucks way more water from carpets, every plastic piece is commercial grade, the rear wheels have rubber tread, and it's capacity for clean and dirty water is great for large houses. I only have the tiniest of complaints about it, like the power button being behind the top handle. I never get used to that! The hose must be stored somewhere because the machine can't hold it. That's really it. They are very small drawbacks compared to how great this thing is at cleaning and how long it will last compared to a supermarket cleaner.

Big green all the way!
I own the big green and have used the rug doctor also. The big green is just such a more easy to use machine and you can go back and forth instead of more like a “squeegee” type method of the rug doctor. The rug doctors short handle hurts my back too

This is such a major advantage knowing this. I have a rug doctor spot clean for pet stains b/c it has the most powerful suction on the market. The main drawback is you can’t really go back and forth when cleaning. You can but it’s tough cuz it’s not meant to be used that way however it cleans better that way.

I’m looking for equal sucking power of that if not better in an upright though. I was drawn to what my neighbor has (pro heat 2x revolution but reviews say it leaks and runs hot requiring cool down periods). The Tineco carpet one def appeals to me especially if it will do what it says. I also was checking out the rug dr pro deep but i def don’t like that it weighs 40lbs and now learning it only cleans when you pull it towards you. That’s a major downside for me. Plus you have to go super slow and it takes awhile to dry supposedly. The thing that killed it for me besides the weight factor and the vibrating brush is that i can’t clean back and forth with it… this just saved me $649. Thx for sharing

I can’t speak to the cleaning quality of the two, but the Rug Doctor is more durable. I used to work for Lowes and we switched our rentals from Rug Doctor to Bissell around 2010. The Bissells constantly break, everything about them is cheap plastic that breaks. Yes, the Bissell is more convenient with its removable tanks, but that’s also what makes them more fragile. The Rug Doctors very rarely has broken pieces.
