hHead first released a cassette called, "Potato" which was followed quickly by the band's first full length independent release, "Fireman", in 1992. It became popular on Canadian campus radio, selling 15,000 copies.
After winning CFNY (Edge 102.1 FM) Next Big Thing contest, and hHead used their prize money to record and release their second album, "Jerk" on IRS Records in 1994. However, IRS Records was at this point in financial trouble, and the band was not well-promoted. The band then moved to the Canadian independent label Handsome Boy Records for their final album, "Ozzy" in 1996.
The band broke up in 1997.
Mintz is now a mastering engineer for artists such as Hayden and The Dears, and has recorded solo material as Noah's Arkweld. Canning joined By Divine Right for that band's second album, and then formed Broken Social Scene with Kevin Drew.

That's fastened to my door
I put the cage upon the door in case
You send your private thoughts to me
I know I have no right to be
The one to whom you might
I know I have no right
The little black brushes keep out the cold
Nothing slid it's way between them
My fantasies are painful now
Unnatural .. or so I'm told
I know I have no right to be forgiven for the tears
I'm getting through the day somehow
What will I do about the years
And I say...
DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS
Someone else can do that, darlin'
You don't need them animals
Throw me something please
I'm starving
Do not feed the animals
Someone else can do that, angel
You don't need them animals
I won't bite you if you try to
Reach into the cage
The phone rang eleven times today
None of them was you
I was exhausted by the end of the day
I know I have no right to be
The one to whom you might
So many animals in the zoo
Doo bee doo.....
DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS
You don't need them animals
I won't bite you if you try to
Reach into the cage
Nothing fell into the cage today
Nothing
The lyrics of hHead's song "Cage" depict a person who has put a cage on their door to protect themselves from receiving private thoughts or messages from someone they are no longer close to. The cage symbolizes the barrier that they have built to keep away any potential hurt that may come their way. The singer acknowledges that they have no right to expect the other person to confide in them, but they can't help but hope for it. The line, "I know I have no right to be forgiven for the tears," indicates that the singer is carrying emotional baggage and has been hurt in the past, making it difficult for them to let go of their anxieties.
The singer's fantasies are portrayed as painful and unnatural, and they feel that the inquisition of others can be equally excruciating. They ask others not to "feed the animals," which could mean not to indulge in gossip or enquire about their personal struggles. The "animals" metaphorically represent their sensitive emotions, which they feel they cannot handle at this point. The singer is starving and yearning for something more in life, and they plead to be thrown something to ease their emotional hunger. The phone not ringing from that one person they want to hear from shows the singer's assumption that the person is intentionally avoiding them.
Overall, hHead's "Cage" is a powerful song about the struggles of coping with emotional baggage and creating boundaries in order to protect oneself from future hurt.
