Beautiful voice.. Beautiful music.. honestly I havnt played this in years.. I'll buy it when I get the chance but the first sound track I ever fell in love with was from this game. I loved the snow music the most but the grasslands music always plays when I'm out in a paddock and the sun making the dew on the grass glisten.

The translation is... "Or are you now walking the paths of thieves yourself, you friend of the wicked?”... It's pretty clear that this was intended as the 'Barbarian' theme. Anybody who has seen 'Conan the Barbarian' could tell you that the most famous barbarian of them all made his living as a thief and hung out with other thieves (before he became a King)!

As a side note, I purchased this game as soon as it came out and the barbarian theme was the one I got. Later versions changed the themes. This channel's publisher has all the themes in his channel for those who want to hear them.

I used to think barbarian theme should've been more primitive with more drum beats, but now that you explained it, it makes more sense now.

Actually, the towns' themes are played on the other towns on the DOS version of the game. However, the sorceress town theme is omitted so one of the themes (the knight town one) replaces it and plays on the barbarian and wizard towns while the barbarian town theme plays on the necromancer towns, the warlock town theme plays on the sorceress towns, the wizard town theme plays on the knight towns and the necromancer town theme plays on the warlock towns.

The reason I commented here, is that there seems to be a little bit of controversy as to which version was correct (See below for comments on this). Some fans think that the Barbarian theme was incorrect in the first release, especially since many don't think the opera music is appropriate and too sophisticated for a 'barbarian'. This is a fair criticism. I provided the translation that makes it clear this theme was no mistake. If you've read the original 'Conan the Cimmerian (Barbarian)' stories or have seen the movies with 'Arnold', you know that Conan was a barbarian thief who became a King by his own hand later in life. Nevertheless, I love the theme anyway. It is my favorite in all the games. I actually like the Barbarian (Stronghold) in HOMM 3 and the original as my favorites in those games as well.

When I lost my original disc, I got another and was disappointed that it did not even have any of the original themes.

The pacing of the song always fit the Necromancer town more to me, especially given that in MIDI form, this was the Necromancer's town theme.

For some reason, after once having a wild ogre-powerstack with few hundreds having me joined, the Ogres became my favourite unit in the game.
I even made maps with hordes of Ogres back then. Named the maps "Mega Oger 2000" and such... 🤣

yeah with release of the DLC they swapped necro and barbarian iirc. This however was originally linked to this city. One could argue about whether swapping was a good decision or linking them to their respective cities originally, and if you read the comments on a lot of vids here, it actually is heavily discussed. Well, maybe the heroes of might and magic equivalent of the How I met your mother Ewok Line. If you're a fan of the first hour, you'll know it and love it the way it was, and if you're going back from HOMM3, to see where it all comes from, it's weird to see the songs mixed up

@@paulchapman8023 If you switch to MIDI, the tracks that play in the castles are switched around. The Knight opera plays in MIDI in the Barbarian castle, for example.

Excuse me. I can clearly see it's sad and emotional. I don't like it because my personal taste is different than yours. You shouldn't insult me just because I don't like something you do.
I was never a fan of Barbarian faction anyway.
