Oh danger, panic in the world and on the street
Oh danger, people, they don't like what we believe
We're gonna take some time tonight
And get it together, let's get it together
We're gonna take some time tonight
And get it together, let's get it together, oh yeah yeah

Oh you know love it don't cost a dime
Oh it's just a, a state of mind
Oh you know love it don't cost a dime
Oh it's just a, a state of mind, yeah

Oh danger, terror on the news will make you run
Oh danger, got to see the storm before the sun
We're gonna take some time tonight
And get it together, we're gonna get it together
We're gonna take some time tonight
And get it together, let's get it together, oh yeah yeah

Oh you know love it don't cost a dime
Oh it's just a, a state of mind
I said you know love it don't cost a dime
Oh it's just a, a state of mind, yeah

Oh danger, panic in the world and on the street
Oh danger, people, that don't like what we believe
We're gonna take some time tonight
And get it together, let's get it together

We're gonna take some time tonight
And get it together, let's get it together, oh yeah yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Dance" by Hollis contains two main themes: the state of the world, including danger and panic on the streets, and the power of love as a counteraction to these negative emotions. The first verse describes the feeling of danger and panic in the world, with people not liking what the singer believes in. The repetition of the phrase "oh danger" creates a sense of urgency and alarm. However, in the chorus, the singer encourages listeners to take some time and get it together, suggesting that there is still hope for moving forward despite the challenges.

The second part of the song contains the theme of love as a state of mind that does not cost anything. The phrase "oh you know love it don't cost a dime" repeats several times, emphasizing the idea that love is not a physical thing that can be bought, but rather a way of thinking that can be cultivated. This idea is further explored in the second verse, where the singer contrasts the terror on the news with the need to see the storm before the sun. Again, there is a sense of hope and optimism that love can help us overcome the negativity in the world.

Overall, "Dance" is a powerful commentary on the state of the world and the role of love in counteracting negative emotions. By combining urgent and critical lyrics with a catchy, upbeat melody, Hollis creates a song that encourages listeners to take action while also providing a message of hope.

Top 10 facts about Holli Would:

1. Holli is the only animated character in the film to use traditional cel animation; the Goons, Superman Jack, etc. all use digital ink and painting.

2. Holli could be inspired by other cartoon femme-fatales such as Betty Boop, Jessica Rabbit, and Poison Ivy as well as sex-symbols in real life such as Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, and Sharon Stone's role as Catherine Tramell in the neo-noir erotic thriller Basic Instinct.

3. Even though Holli failed to have the same popularity of her six aforementioned bombshell inspirations, she is as well a frequent subject of artists and Cosplay models.

4. In the original draft of the screenplay for Cool World, Holli Would was originally named Debbie Dallas. She was named after the porn film Debbie Does Dallas (1978).

5. To illustrate the figure of Holli, a model named Jenine Freni was taken as a reference.

6. During the first production process, Ralph Bakshi wanted Drew Barrymore for the sexualized character of Holli (who still carried the name of "Debbie Dallas"). The company rejected the young Barrymore for being one year below the adult age of 18, so they hired an actress who is two decades older than Barrymore, being none other than Kim Basinger.

7. Before Basinger won the role of Holli Would, Traci Lords was in contention for the character, but lost out to the more widely recognized Basinger which made Ralph Bakshi recreate the character to give Holli Would similar facial features.

8. A rumor claims that there was an unpublished version of the film in which Holli appears completely naked (similar to Marigold AKA Miss America from Coonskin/Street Fight), but in the test exhibitions, it caused controversy, so they had to redraw clothes on Holli's body. It is also assured that the actor Brad Pitt had a scene from Half-Naked with his girlfriend Loonette, and this version of the movie to this day has never been shown.

9. Speaking of controversy, Paramount Pictures once did a publicity stunt by putting a huge cut-out of Holli Would on the D of the Hollywood sign. The studio donated $27,000 to the sign's maintenance fund, another $27,000 to the Rebuild L.A. fund (it was just after the L.A. riots), and paid for 2 park rangers to guard the sign 24 hours a day. The stunt angered local residents, who picketed and demanded that the cut-out be taken down.

10. Speaking of Marigold from Coonskin/Street Fight, Holli shares some similarities with another Ralph Bakshi character "Miss America" as they both are blonde sex symbols, manipulators, and murderers.

the animation on her dancing is so fluid and wonderful-they really outdid themselves back then

KrisMTL

+Jojo Soule Her animation was stellar! Too bad most of the rest of the animation was garbage, maybe all the budget was spent on her.

Sahuagin

+Jojo Soule I would think there's a very good chance they actually filmed a woman dancing and drew on top of (or at least from) her frames.

J Garza

+Sahuagin That process is called rotoscoping.

I thought this was a Don Bluth film for a second. I love Disney movies, but Don Bluth movies have very fluid and beautiful animation.

I love how eerie the music gets when Holli's face is shown up close, as if she's being presented as an evil succubus.
