thin
iamamiwhoami Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A fire's beneath the cloak of night has our minds in control
We guard them with our weary eyes and we watch them grow
When the time is right
And we're ready to begin
At the first tide, your patience wearing thin
Scattered in from night
I scrawl it in a winter white
Melting into thin air

The kind of which I came to be
Left of being swallowed whole
By offering a piece of me
To any given fool
Scattered in the mud
Like innocent shades of white
Spreading by the wind

(Change goes on)
(Wind blows south)

It doesn't end
They ask us why, who said we had a chance?
Want me to fall?
It doesn't end (through the wind, through the wind)
They ask us why, who said we had a chance?
Want me to fall?

Too thin (through the wind, through the wind)
Too thin, too thin (through the wind, through the wind, through the wind)

(Change goes on)

(Through the wind, through the wind, through the wind)
(Wind blows south)

Overall Meaning

The song "thin" by iamamiwhoami talks about the struggle of controlling one's mind while being surrounded by a chaotic environment. The first verse presents the idea that there is a fire burning beneath the cloak of night, which represents the fear and anxiety that lie within us. The line "we guard them with our weary eyes and we watch them grow" suggests that we try to suppress these negative feelings, but they continue to intensify until we reach a point where we can no longer control them. The second verse talks about the struggle of not losing oneself while trying to fit into society. The line "left of being swallowed whole by offering a piece of me to any given fool" talks about the fear of losing one's identity by following the crowd blindly. The chorus implies that despite the constant questioning by others and the desire for us to fall, we still strive to move forward, even if we might be "too thin" in the process.

The song uses vivid imagery to convey the emotions and thoughts of the singer. The line "scattered in from night, I scrawl it in a winter white, melting into thin air" presents a picture of the singer expressing their emotions while being covered in snow. The line "like innocent shades of white, spreading by the wind" implies that the singer's emotions are pure and uncontaminated by the chaos around them.

Overall, "thin" deals with themes of self-control, identity, and perseverance. The song suggests that even though we might feel overwhelmed and lost in the chaos of the world, we still have the power to keep going and hold onto our true selves.

[Verse 1: Jonna Lee]
Our finds beneath the cloak of night
Has our minds in control
We guard them with our weary eyes
And we watch them grow
When the time is right and we’re ready to begin
At the first tide, your patience’s wearing thin

[Chorus 1: Jonna Lee]
We scatter in the night
Like scarlet red on winter white
Melting into thin
[Verse 2: Jonna Lee]
The kind of which I came to be
After being swallowed whole
By offering a piece of me
To any given fool

[Chorus 2: Jonna Lee]
We scatter in the night
Like innocent sheets of white
Spreading by the wind

[Bridge: Claes Björklund]
She goes high
Leave no sound
She goes high
Leave no sound

[Chorus 3: Jonna Lee]
They turn to us
They ask us why
Who say they are to trust
What we define?

[Chorus 3: Jonna Lee]
They turn to us
(You know they, you know they, you know they won't)
They ask us why
Who say they are to trust
What we define?

I already pre-ordered BLUE, it was 18 Euros for the physical CD + 10 Euros for shipping. AND I CAN`T WAIT for it to arrive, this is my way to express my love for the project, without funds, they won't be making this magic anymore, even if they want.

iamamiwhoami's music has helped me through so many rough times since i have discovered them. Music like this transcends you to a different place. Especially during this pandemic, and everything else that is happening in the world, i want to listen to a song like this + just escape. (I ordered the "blue" vinyl and cannot wait until it gets here just to listen to this song on repeat and possibly tear up at the beauty of it!)

I know everyone is saying it, but that tempo change... gives me chill and euphoria.

The transition... I do not think they will be able to surpass the effect they have made with this song just by the transition. Oh, my God!!! Thank you Iamamiwhoami just for existing!
