Peaches

I've been working on my knees baby it's alright
Everybody got disease maybe it's alright

You can steal from me baby that's just fine
You can say it's free baby that's alright

Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end
Freezing on the beaches
Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches

We won't live too long
So let's love for one song
The lion won't lay down
When the holy man's in town

You've been drinking all week baby that's alright
You've been stepping on me baby it's alright

You've been tearing me apart in the dead of night
I'll be raising my hands when the lighting strikes

Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end
Freezing on the beaches
Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches

We won't live too long
So let's love for one song
The lion won't lay down
When the holy man's in town

Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end
Freezing on the beaches
Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches

We won't live too long
So let's love for one song
The lion won't lay down
When the holy man's in town

Working on a feeling
Breaking down the ceiling
Digging up a deep end

Freezing on the beaches
Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches

Overall Meaning

The song Peaches by In the Valley Below encompasses a theme of accepting imperfections and living in the moment as life is fleeting. The opening lines “I’ve been working on my knees baby it’s alright, Everybody got disease maybe it's alright” suggest that the singer is willing to endure difficulties and uncertainties, acknowledging that everyone has their own issues to deal with. The line, “You can steal from me baby that's just fine, You can say it's free baby that's alright” implies a sense of detachment, as if to say that material possessions have no real value and the notion of ownership is arbitrary. The chorus, “We won't live too long, So let's love for one song” highlights the transience of life, suggesting that we should cherish the moment and make the most of it. The line, “The lion won't lay down when the holy man's in town” suggests that one should not be passive or submissive in the face of authority, but rather stand up to it.

The song is structured around a guitar riff that builds and reinforces the song’s theme. The line “Reaching for the sweetest, sweetest peaches” can be interpreted as a metaphor for the pursuit of happiness and pleasure in life. “Working on a feeling, Breaking down the ceiling, Digging up a deep end, Freezing on the beaches” creates vivid imagery and an atmosphere of intensity and urgency. The lines "You've been drinking all week baby that's alright, You've been stepping on me baby it's alright, You've been tearing me apart in the dead of night, I'll be raising my hands when the lighting strikes” suggest resilience and determination despite hardships and difficulties encountered in a relationship.

One interesting fact about the song is that it was used in the TV show Riverdale during a scene at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe; it was also featured in the movie How to Be Single. Another interesting fact is that the music video for the song was directed by Angela Kohler and Ithyle Griffiths and features a montage of surreal and dreamlike images, capturing the song’s intensity and vividness. Peaches was released in 2017 and featured on the album "Elephant" by In the Valley Below. The song was produced by John Congleton who has also worked with St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney, and Swans, among others. The song has a 4/4 time signature, and is in the key of C minor. So rare it is to encounter a song that becomes a part of you on a moment's notice. This song is perfect. Just perfect.

Oh wow that is the best way to put it. I was jogging one day with my usual 'empire of the sun' Pandora channel going and this jem came up. I immediately looked at the artist and immediately made sure I kept them in my memory. After that I sent it to everyone I cared about and we still talk about how amazing it is 🙂

@rants1994

How does this make so much sense. Rainbow Kitten Surprise songs are like for me as well. Look up Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap. It also has this feeling. Doses and Mimosas by Cherub does it too.

My mother (a boomer from the hippy generation) turned me (generation x) on to this song... She kept up with music more than I did. She had some amazing taste in her old age. She would go from a song like this to slipknot in a heartbeat. R.I.P Ma.
