Home!

Hmm, oh, the future is gonna be bright
A clear path and all the stars are out
Looking up at the dark blue sky
Walking steady, not blinded by the light

I don't believe in a god, let's leave religion out of all this
I don't remember promising my life and soul to bring you all bliss
If I am what you say, I expect to be hanging from a wooden cross
When all this is done, it's done
I don't believe in a god, let's leave religion out of all this
I don't remember promising my life and soul to bring you all bliss
If I am what you say, I expect to be hanging from a wooden cross
When all this is done, it's done

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Home
Home

Oh, oh, the past will never be the same
Once I am done, good memories will be gone
They guard their secrets with their life
I spit on your fo-forsaken tribe

I don't believe in a god, let's leave religion out of all this
I don't remember promising my life and soul to bring you all bliss
If I am what you say, I expect to be hanging from a wooden cross
When all this is done, it's done
I don't believe in a god, let's leave religion out of all this
I don't remember promising my life and soul to bring you all bliss
If I am what you say, I expect to be hanging from a wooden cross
When all this is done, it's done

Oh, thy beauty makes me go blind
When you are near, my senses don't function
I give you this empty life
Can I be your solider with a knife?

I don't believe in a god, let's leave religion out of all this
I don't remember promising my life and soul to bring you all bliss
If I am what you say, I expect to be hanging from a wooden cross
When all this is done, it's done
I don't believe in a god, let's leave religion out of all this
I don't remember promising my life and soul to bring you all bliss
If I am what you say, I expect to be hanging from a wooden cross
When all this is done, it's done

Oh, thy beauty makes me go blind
When you are near, my senses don't function
I give you this empty life
Can I be your solider with a knife?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to ionnalee's SAMARITAN are full of nuanced emotion and deep meaning. The opening lines of "the future is gonna be bright" and "a clear path and all the stars are out" set a tone of optimism and hope, while "walking steady, not blinded by the light" suggests a grounded sense of self-awareness that enables one to navigate their path with purpose.

However, this sense of optimism is quickly challenged by the lines "I don't believe in a god, let's leave religion out of all this" and "I don't remember promising my life and soul to bring you all bliss." These particularly blunt and direct lyrics suggest a rejection of traditional religious beliefs and societal pressures to conform to a particular set of values or expectations.

Towards the end of the song, we hear "Oh, thy beauty makes me go blind/ When you are near, my senses don't function" which hints at the idea of love or obsession overpowering rational thought and blinding one's better judgement. As the song concludes with the repeated line "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no/ Home/ Home," it leaves the listener with a sense of longing for a place of belonging and security, which may or may not be found through love, religion or other means.

Overall, SAMARITAN is a complex and thought-provoking piece that explores themes of individualism, societal expectations, love and longing.

Jonna has such a way with her physical performance, her expression, her poise. The exaggerated haughtiness of the TV pop idol is delicious, and the delicate, curious mimicry of the idolizer is exquisite. She had this all through iamamiwhoami (most profoundly in Kin) and she seems only to continue to perfect it.

@jrod-ml5ob

so much imagery here, the strawberries, the throwback to the "in concert" phone call videos and most of all Blue began with the black box of Kin burning, Samaritan has the clear box of Blue burning in the fireplace

@Levi-ib7ty

jrod2824 I think the figure we saw in Hunting For Pearls was her running from these people, and now they caught her and they are forcing her to be a deity because they know of her power.

@Soddingsociety

I agree to the first two points but there is no seethrough-box in the fire that resembles BLUE :(

@fredpsycho

I think the new "box" in this era is the T.V. itself..

The speech at the beginning of the video is from Winston Churchill's "The Threat of Nazi Germany", November 16, 1934.

"Many people think that the best way to escape war is to dwell upon its horrors and to imprint them vividly upon the minds of the younger generation. They flaunt the grisly photograph before their eyes. They fill their ears with tales of carnage. They dilate upon the ineptitude of generals and admirals. They denounce the crime as insensate folly of human strife."
