And there's none but some falling rain
This like a spoken word
She is more than her thousand names
No hands are half as gentle
Or firm as they like to be
Thank God you see me the way you do
It is good in my lady's house
And the shape that her body makes
Love is a fragile word
In the air on the length we lay
No hands are half as gentle
Or firm as they like to be
Thank God you see me the way you do
Strange as you are to me
In "My Lady's House" by Iron & Wine, the lyrics depict a sense of warmth and comfort in the singer's lady's house. The first verse mentions the presence of light in her house, contrasting it with the falling rain outside. This juxtaposition may suggest that despite external difficulties or challenges (represented by the rain), her house is a sanctuary filled with positivity and illumination. The mention of "spoken word" signifies that her house is a place where meaningful conversations and connections take place.
The second verse emphasizes the unique qualities of the lady. The line "She is more than her thousand names" implies that her identity cannot be fully captured or defined by mere words. The singer acknowledges the gentle and firm nature of her hands, possibly implying that she possesses both tenderness and strength in the way she interacts with the world. The line "Thank God you see me the way you do" suggests that the lady perceives and understands the singer in a way that no one else does. Despite their differences or perceived strangeness, she accepts and appreciates him.
The third verse continues to describe the positive atmosphere in the lady's house. The line "It is good in my lady's house" suggests a sense of contentment and happiness in this environment. The following line, "And the shape that her body makes," could be interpreted as a reference to the physical presence of the lady, highlighting the intimate and personal nature of their relationship. The mention of love as a fragile word indicates the delicacy and significance of emotions within their connection, while the phrase "in the air on the length we lay" implies a deep emotional and physical bond they share.
The final chorus reaffirms the idea of the gentle and firm nature of the lady's touch. This sentiment expresses gratitude for the depth of understanding and acceptance she provides to the singer, even if he finds her strangeness or uniqueness unfamiliar. Overall, the lyrics of "My Lady's House" demonstrate an appreciation for the comforting and special qualities of the lady's home and the profound bond shared between her and the singer.

This whole album is a piece of my heart restored from when it broke as my mother passed on to her Perfect Form In The Summerlands of Gaea. I feel my mother talking to my with very lyric reminding me that SHE is MY Lilith, My Mother, I hear her speaking in the background and funny thing is she was a background singer. I dont know how you capture it but you do. Much Love and Blessed Be from North West Vancouver,BC Canada
