My uncle Franky and other uncles would bring their buddies to our apartment on Bushwick Avenue, play this song and all cry. Me and my siblings were moved but only understood when we grew up. Franky named his beautiful daughter Valerie. My loving cousin Valerie. Imagine a bunch of tough Puerto Ricans all breaking down and crying at this song, on more than one occasion.

In 1959 he was living in the South Bronx. I sang with him once and he kept yelling at me that I was off key. Great times. Oh and yes I met Valarie, she was beautiful.

The METTONES were a very popular band in Connecticut around 65-67. The had a lead singer Joey Borgnas. He sang this song every where they played. He had every single girl in the building crying. It was fun to see. He really had the girls wrapped around his fingers. He really played it up.

I don't think people understand the significance of these doo wop crying love songs. Men REALLY loved their women , were not AFRAID to let a flood of emotions out , these were wonderful times for Black love. It was all in the air! Now it's all but gone.
