Overall Meaning

The song “Mi Corazón” by Juan Campodonico is a slow, melancholic track that speaks about heartbreak and the depths of one's emotions. The repeated phrase, “Mi corazón” (my heart), sets the tone from the beginning, indicating that the song is an homage to raw, unfiltered feelings. The lyrics suggest that the singer is lost in their emotions and being pulled towards the unknown depths of the “bajofondo,” (deep, underground) which represents a place far removed from society’s expectations and norms. This phrase is also used as a reference to Bajofondo Tango Club, a musical project that Campodonico co-founded, which fuses traditional Argentine tango with modern electronic beats.

The chorus in the song reveals a conversation where the singer is telling their partner that they don't have to say anything, they are aware that their relationship is over, and that the reason behind the breakup is valid. The bandoneón, an accordion-like instrument that is prominent in Argentine tango, plays a significant part in the song's embellishment and sentiment. The instrument’s mournful melody and the lyrics’ melancholic tone evokes a sense of sadness and longing. The song speaks about the pain of love, heartbreaks and the catharsis of acceptance- that life must go on. The song is a tranquil, reflective ballad that allows the listener to connect more deeply with their emotions and seek solace in their sorrow.
