Hart played the guitar and occasionally sang improvisational songs at open mic performances as a teenager and had "secretly released" some recordings to Myspace. Living in Santa Monica after high school, they went on to embrace live improvised vocal looping and organic beat making as the staple of their prolific and varied body of work without set genre.
