Mary Jane Holland

Lady of the ‘dam
Won’t be a slave to the blonde
Or the culture of the popular
She won’t, she won't
Sing at you I'll
Fly under radar tonight
Make deals with every devil in sight
I will, I will

'Cause I love, love, 'cause I love, love
You better than, you better than
My darkest sin
Russian hookers, and cheap gin

I think that I could be fine
If I could be Mary Jane Holland tonight
I think we'd have a good time
If you'd meet me and Mary Jane in Holland tonight

Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)
Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)

I don't like to boast
But our truffles are the most
Mad-magical in Amsterdam (she won't, she won't)
So if you have fear, Apollo sit on my lyre, and
Play hIm like a piano man (I will, I will)

'Cause I love, love, 'cause I love, love
You better than, you better than
My darkest sin
Russian hookers, and cheap gin

I think that I could be fine
If I could be Mary Jane Holland tonight
I think we'd have a good time
If you'd meet me and Mary Jane in Holland tonight

Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)
Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)

I know that mom and dad think I'm a mess
But it's alright, because
I am rich as piss
When I ignite
And put you in my mouth
The grass heats up my insides and my brunette starts to sprout
Introducing, ladies and gentleman, Mary Jane Holland

I think that I could be fine
If I could be Mary Jane Holland tonight
I think we'd have a good time
If you'd meet me and Mary Jane in Holland tonight

Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)
Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)

Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)
Mary, Jane, Holland (whoh-who)

i know it's like, a year late, but i need to let out this rage via a reverse warholian expedition lol

except, she doesn't. at least a label that is successful - the edits are fairly minimal and made no difference in 'accessibility'. An artistic revolution through the potential of pop could never be achieved (in terms of gaga's situation) just due to the nature of Interscope and their restrictive business practices. She technically had achieved a 'reverse' of Warhol; albeit she had not liberated any 'artist' in the process, it was always just a battle between interscope execs and gaga and they refused to fund majority of her things, they had so much power in the process and artpop's potential was severely stunted. ironically, this seemed like the era where she was the least 'liberated', and whatnot.

there was a lack of visual identity in the project in general, and i think it could be blamed on her and the label. she thought it was a brilliant idea to have r. kelly on a track and have terry richardson direct the whole thing. the cherry on top would be a music video of her having some orgy with good ol' kelly's posse of sexy nurses. at least she at the time had a modicum of a moral compass to not release a music video - i wish r.kelly was absent and there wasn't a sexual video. the whole 'ad-for-rape' quality of the mv completely undermined the whole commentary on shallow journalism, people didn't view it as a track of her being liberated from the media, they believed it was just an ode to being wallfucked.

interscope refused to release aura as a single, and i understand why, applause has much cleaner production and in general is a lyrically better song, but the issue was is that they had continuously held gaga at such a high-standard, expecting her to produce billions and whatnot. they have promoted 'bizarre-sounding' tracks for artists before, but not for gaga. the venus video still could've technically been released. BDR had received a video despite it being a promotional single, but that wouldn't blend well with the whole artpop-venus-guy music video medley she did, i suppose. i don't understand why applause got such horrible promotion, the clowns at interscope intensely study trends and consistently make meaningless graphs of album sales, yet they couldn't create a moderately functioning single schedule in response to gaga's hip breaking.

i think gaga still has to learn of the industry before she manages her own record label, and artpop was destined to 'underperform' (compared to her previous works ofc, artpop did great), just due to the touring she had done and the exhaustion she had faced.
