The lead track from his Silver Linings EP, ‘Fingertips’, shot to the top of Spotify’s Global Viral Chart before being added to the BBC 1Xtra playlist. The buzz lead to sold-out London gigs, a performance on BBC Introducing’s SXSW stage & headline slot at BBC Asian Network’s 2016 Future Sounds festival.
On his follow-up Outside In EP, Leo grappled with his identity for the first time, with lead single ‘Fucked Up’ exploring how being gay & closeted strained his personal relationships. This new direction saw the Guardian name Leo one of “pop’s real rebels.”
In 2018 came ‘The Edge’, Leo’s most accomplished EP. On its release, Paper Magazine described Leo as an artist “on the edge of glory” who “makes the kind of emotionally resonant pop music that can incite positive change.” Telling personal & politically taboo stories with ferocity, the EP was BBC 1Xtra’s no.1 EP for the month, and created famous new fans including Elton John, Diplo, Ayushmann Khuranna, Maxwell & RuPaul.
Feels Right

Took a hit and I'm spun, on my own under white bombs
I hear ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Feel the thrill of the rush, under lucent sun burn
Getting warm in our bloods but it's cool here, I'm no one
Coastlines, great wines, everything is new
Paper planes, gold bottles, a new shade of blue
Real hit, real high, nothing to lose
I don't know where I am but it feels right
I don't know where I am but it feels right, feels right
I don't know where I am but it feels right
I don't know where I am but it feels right, feels right
Gold chains, promenade, lay back and cruise
Insane guitars playing out the blues
Valleys, hill tops, reflections in pools
Everywhere's paradise, we go wherever we choose
We go wherever we choose
I don't know where I am but it feels right
I don't know where I am but it feels right, feels right
I don't know where I am but it feels right
I don't know where I am but it feels right, feels right
The lyrics to Leo Kalyan's song "Feels Right" brings a sense of adventure and freedom. The first verse sets the scene of being lost and taking wrong turns but finding joy in the unexpected. The reference to the "white bombs" could suggest a drug reference, but it could also be interpreted as an explosion of excitement and energy. The chorus repeats the line "I don't know where I am but it feels right" which emphasizes the freedom and carefree nature of the song. The second verse mentions luxurious items such as gold bottles and gold chains, but also includes natural landscapes such as valleys and hilltops. It seems as though the song is celebrating the beauty in both material possessions and nature.
The song could be interpreted as a tribute to living life without limitations and taking risks. The line "real hit, real high, nothing to lose" suggests that the experiences gained are worth the potential risks. The use of sensory imagery, such as the sight of great wines and the sound of insane guitars, brings the listener into the moment of the song. The use of repetition in the chorus emphasizes the idea that not knowing where you are can be exhilarating and freeing.
Overall, "Feels Right" is a celebration of the unknown and the joy found in living in the moment.
