Overall Meaning

In the song "Dipset" by Lil Wayne, the opening lines "Oh Yea, cut the music up in the phones Drew, My hair is blocking it" sets the stage for the rapper's lyrical prowess. Wayne is speaking on the impact of his wealth, comparing the growth of his hair to the growth of his assets. The line "My shit growin' like my money" is a clever way of saying that Wayne's value and influence is continuously expanding.

He continues to rap about his lavish lifestyle, referencing the popular Harlem-based rap group, The Diplomats or Dipset, who were known for their extravagant fashion and wealth. Wayne boasts about his own ability to live large, stating that he too "belongs in the Dipset". He brags about his success, stating that he's "richer than a heart attack" and has "more ice than a hockey rink". In the following lines, he references his own musical success, referencing platinum records and "Rick Flair shit", which is likely a reference to the wrestler who was known for his flamboyant personality and luxury lifestyle.

Ultimately, "Dipset" is a song about Lil Wayne's personal wealth and success, comparing himself to other icons of luxurious living. He is painting an image of himself as a larger-than-life figure, with his confidence and prowess on display throughout.

Back in this era we used to be more excited about a Wayne mixtape than his album. Wayne was dropping mixtapes like crazy during this time. YouTube was fresh back then and being a kid in high school this was truly truly a blessing to get his full mixtape on a platform like this. Kids nowadays wouldn’t understand the hype
