Miles
liv. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

That was the day you told me
Everything's not as it seems
You took out a drawing it was
A picture of your family tree

And all of the lights in the city
Can't show what's inside
Holding hands across the table
We've both got something to hide

Remember the morning that you
Tried to read my mind
My thoughts are not all bad, honey
But you know that they're not kind

Statues of long-gone men they
Cast us into the shade
Stay in the shadows was it ever
Worth that price that you paid

Late into midnight
Nothing to lose
Put on your jacket
Put on your boots
Take over the streetlights
Take over the guns
Take over my memory
The air in my lungs

Two packs of cigarettes and
A tablecloth littered with ash
I've got a lot to say but
I don't have any cash
Living on your voice and
The sound of the train passing by
Drown it with my guitar and
The reputable sigh

You've got a ticket
A taxi stands by
We don't have time to think
What's left in the air is a lie
Wish you'd wind down your window and
Shout out some words
I know that you're thinking but you
Won't let be heard

So long I still have to go
So long indeed
Until I can rest my head oh it's
Miles until I can sleep
Walk in the forest with the midnight trees

Miles to go, its miles to go
Until your voice cries out for me

Overall Meaning

"Miles" by Liv begins with the day the singer was told that everything is not as it seems, and the lyrics show that even the city lights cannot show what's really going on inside a person. The second verse talks about the singer's thoughts, which are not particularly kind, and the third one mentions that living in the shadows was perhaps not worth the price that was paid. The lyrics go on to describe the night, with the singer having nothing to lose, putting on her boots and taking over the streetlights and guns. She talks about having a lot to say but no cash, and living off the sound of her lover's voice and the train passing by.

The fourth verse continues to describe the sense of being stuck between something that's beautiful and something that's dark, with the image of a tablecloth littered with ash. In the fifth, the singer is still dependent on the person she's addressing for direction, but they don't have time to think about what to do next. As the song ends the singer describes walking in the forest with the midnight trees, with both a sense of distance and longing.

Throughout the song, the lyrics point to conversations and silences that surround the singer, but the exact nature of what's being discussed is left to the listener's interpretation. One could imagine that the conversation that opens the song takes place between two people who know each other deeply, and that the singer is being let in on something troubling about the other person's family history or personal struggles. The idea of living in the shadows suggests that there's something illicit or hidden going on, though again, what that might be is left unsaid.

Why can't one couple stay faithful to each other on this show!?
Is it too much to ask ffs?????

Bag Holder

Digby is lying. He said he never saw her in his life but later in the episode said that she messaged him. If he's telling the truth, why would his story change?

Douglas Antero

Alguém. Por favor. Tem as temporadas em português

Captain Coco

I think Alex has a crush on Miles. He looked disappointed when Miles said "My ex she bla bla bla" Plus Alex was giving him the eye. That would be one steamy love story if they did get together.Well, one never knows....it could happen.

Shiree

Glad Digby told Miles to leave his relationship alone
