these are my friends

These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them
These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them

I wish I was a little more loved
Tryna find a way to fix that
So many people inside my head
Momma taught me not to talk back
But they're pretty good company
They cheer me up when I feel bad
Is it my insecurities
That keep me going?

These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them
These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them
And they don't care who you are
They don't care what you do, no
These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them

My heart and I don't get along
It's something that I'm sad about
Everybody needs a pick me up
But I should probably slow it down
But it's pretty good company
It cheers me up when I feel bad
These are my insecurities
That keep me going

These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them
These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them
And they don't care who you are
They don't care what you do, no
These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them

We are the weirdos
Inflated egos
The filthy misbehave
The ones you dream of
The ones you can't shake
Living in your brain

These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them
These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them
And they don't care who you are
They don't care what you do, no

These are my friends, these are my friends
I love them, I love them

Overall Meaning

In “these are my friends,” lovelytheband explores themes of isolation, insecurity, and the power of friendship. The song begins with the repetitive line, “these are my friends, these are my friends,” as the lead singer declares his love for his group of friends. He admits that he wishes he was loved more and is often consumed by the many voices inside of his head. However, he turns to his friends for comfort and support, realizing that they are the company that cheers him up when he feels bad. While the singer acknowledges his own insecurities and vulnerabilities, his friends accept him for who he is and do not care about his flaws.

The chorus of the song, “and they don’t care who you are, they don’t care what you do, no,” emphasizes the importance of true friendship, where people are accepted for who they are, flaws and all. The bridge of the song, “we are the weirdos, inflated egos, the filthy misbehave, the ones you dream of, the ones you can’t shake, living in your brain,” celebrates the unique and unconventional personalities of the singer and his friends. The song ends with another repetition of the chorus, highlighting the deep affection the singer has for his friends.

Overall, “these are my friends” is a heartfelt and relatable anthem about the power of friendship and accepting oneself.

Holy shit... I guess these guys won't be a one hit wonder after all. When I saw this come up on my phone I thought to myself, there's no way this is going to top 'Broken' . But I must say, I am blown the hell away. Their energy, the instrumental finesse, the vocals, the meaning in the words... Such a happy beautiful song that really makes me want to jam out.
