Specifically, iPhones stop charging until 80% during the night and top up when you usually wake up, recent Samsungs limit to 85% if you check it in device management, and Asus and Sony also have battery life measurements (though I wouldn't recommend them). Wireless charging is something not a lot of people do, but the heat is another thing that destroys the battery. Another tip for OLED screens (that's nearly every phone over $300) is to use a dark mode. It also reduces the risk of screen burn-in.

I'm surprised that Vinny has problems with his Galaxy S9, I'm content with my European Note 9 which is the same generation but with significantly worse performance and battery life (though I guess the 2GB of ram and larger battery compensate for it). His main requirements seem to be better performance, better battery life and stellar camera, which is literally any new phone compared to his S9. But back then, the S9 was also state-of-the-art, so it's good to set high standards if you want to make it another 4 years.

I saw chat recommend Google Pixels, and while they have amazing computational photography, they usually have faults (the current Pixel 6 suffers from numerous software update bugs and the fingerprint reader is trash). Oneplus is overrated (their cameras and battery life aren't the best, especially for the prices they are asking nowadays), Xiaomi doesn't get a lot of software support, Huawei is gone because of a discontinued orange, LG and HTC are dead (shame, HTC would be a good fit for Vinny), Sony is overpriced, Motorola is fine but not flagship level, and I doubt Chinaphones are a thing in America. Really the only brands I could recommend are Apple and Samsung:

- If you want a good but smol phone, go iPhone 13 mini. Due to poor sales, this might even be the last chance to pick up a small flagship, but battery life is average. That said, Apple offers a great software experience, over 6 years of software support, consistently great cameras and optimised chipsets.
- If you want a cheap(er) phone, there is the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G (A52S 5G if you live outside US). It has decent higher-midrange performance, great battery life and above average cameras. Software support is 5 years for all newer and non-budget Samsungs. In the same ballpark, the S20FE is a flagship worthy alternative with the same great battery-life and better cameras/performance, but only 2.5 years of updates from now.
- If you want a spiritual successor to an S9, you could get an S22 (it's Samsung's smallest flagship, but battery life is under average). The S21 is a cheaper option, it's probably just as fast and because it is bigger, it also has more battery. If you want even more, consider the S21 FE (basically a larger phone with flagship performance, larger battery and the same cameras). I wouldn't consider the newer generation (S22), as they are expensive without really offering any noticeable upgrade.
- If you want the best phone, I would recommend an iPhone 13 Pro (Max). Their cameras might be less spectacular than a periscope 10X zoom of the S22 Ultra, but it's universally agreed that video recording on iPhones are best, and photography is more consistent. The 13 Pro Max also has the best battery life of all flagships. They are more expensive and it takes time to step from Android to iOS, but Apple has an undeniable smooth experience that will last for years.

And uh, this is a special recommendation. There is also the discontinued LG Wing, which gets no more updates, it does not have great cameras, and it's becoming a collectible... but it's the only smartphone that SPEENS! Sorry btw for being a phone nerd. If anyone wants to take this advice, remember that this was just me typing a comment as I woke up to watch some Kirby.
