As someone still struggling with addiction, but that made it a solid 1.5 years sober at one point, I noticed one of the biggest warnings signs was his frequent reluctance in this film to flat out and openly admit that his drinking was an addiction or a problem. He made multiple excuses or validations for it, and also seemed either stressed or unhappy that he was going to be a father. Simply him being so reluctant to say he was going to be a father out loud shows that a part of him still really wants to just keep partying/drinking. I think the death of his friend was a reality check, but the fact that it was something that happened to someone else and that he didn't see it happen makes it easier for him to deny that he's on a similar path. He needs to have a serious health problem other than just having weak muscles and difficulty skating at the level he used to be at.

Around the time the original comment had been posted, Bam allegedly had a mental health incident of some sort in which he apparently was making death threats to family members. He was admitted to a psychiatric treatment facility in June of 23.

Two things:

1. Wow it is very clear that Phil and April’s parenting style formed the nucleus for a lot of Bam’s problems. They clearly love their son very much but the refusal to set any boundaries early on has basically torpedoed any chance he had at becoming responsible as an adult.

2. I am incredibly proud of Brandon Novac for being able to get and stay sober. For anyone who doesn’t know, he was in the THRALLS of addiction and his ability to turn himself around and work as a speaker to help others is so satisfying to see.

I've watched/listened to/kept up with Bam since I was in 8th grade in 1996 and cannot explain just how hard I'm rooting for the guy. I feel like a lot of people at my (our) age have seen a lot of the same pitfalls that he has, but he had to go through them in full view of a very unforgiving public that just tosses you aside when you're not making them laugh anymore, and I cannot imagine anything worse. Whether he sees it or not, I have a feeling he has an entire generation of, at the very least, American kids-turned-adults who are cheering him on hoping he finds something resembling peace.

Was literally the best show I've ever seen as a young teen.
Fun, action packed, un-predictable episodes that are literally nostalgic. I miss being young and I was lucky enough to have someone like him and the CKY boys on MTV when I would get home from school or on the weekends.

Bam's clearly spiraled over the past couple decades. It's nice to see him seemingly working on himself. I'm blown away by Novak. I'm around these guys age, and recall Novak and thinking he's in a hole that few can ever pull themselves out of. Impressed and proud to see where he's at in life, and sobriety. Bam pathed the way for a whole 20 year generation, it all stemed from him, had huge hand on the way jackass was presented and made.. a whole 20 ish years of history created by this man for 100s of million of us growing up. The whole mtv era, vival la bam was the highlight of it all. Proof how far he stretched is that I grew up in North of England UK, the skateboard, skatepark craze went right past us all the way into Europe also.. This is why he shouldn't have been left out of the latest jackass for any reason. He did no more wrong than any of them. True catalyst and main character. Built so many bridges and connections with that crazy vibe energy as a kid .. legend.

Yes my dad was a blackout drunk for decades. He's clean and in better health in his 60s. If he had the strenghth to do it I believe anyone can. It's a hard road but the end results are beautiful congratulations on your sobriety💪

On july 8th this year my wife and I filed papers to get married. Later that afternoon one of my best friends from high school took his own life. They never really showed how loving Phil and April were/are. They are amazing loving parents. They keep it authentic and aren’t in denial about anything. I can really appreciate that. It’s also amazing to see everything come full circle in regard to Novak and Bam. As someone in recovery Novak’s story is absolutely stunning.

It's good to see Bam doing better, I know how he feels, I've struggled with one substance addiction after the other since I was 15, I'm now 54 and back to drinking. But I learned to function as an addict/alcoholic but I can't function sober. I've always had to have something to deal with life.

It is now 2024 and Bam hasn't followed through on any of this and has actually spiraled even further out of control and seems to have possibly passed the point of no return and completely lost his mind and lost himself to addiction and his horrendous mental health issues. And sadly his son is left without a true father.

Also, y'all, this was filmed in 2017. Bam has only JUST NOW completed a year in recovery. Verifiably, it definitely got worse after this. He got booted from Jackass 4 and was in and out of rehab for years! But the good news is he's visibly on the right path now. It is NOT an easy path. It takes a lifetime to maintain recovery. We can all offer our love and support to Bam, and it would mean even more if we extend that support to the people in our own lives who are struggling. Everybody knows someone directly affected by addiction. Be true to yourself!

I don't think this documentary is recent. He has fallen to brainwashing, propaganda, etc. He is still an alcoholic and he is so lazy he couldn't even log into a Skype meeting with the producers of the new Jackass film which is why he was eventually removed from the film. Because he was too busy getting wasted to even bother showing up. He also is an anti-vaxxer and recently caught Covid and is on a respirator. I used to love Bam and I wish him well and hope he gets better and grows up one day.

@@qaz122 he's actually been released from the hospital and is either home recovering or back in rehab, where he very obviously needs to be. This video was extremely sad to watch knowing what the 5 years since its recording had in store. The part that intrigued me was novak being skeptical of bam's recovery. He was 100% right. He knows what it takes to get back to just being normal after being that far into addiction. I really hope bam gets there.

It's nice to go back and watch this every few years. Really hits home. Life sure has changed since we were young and had no responsibilities. One look at Bam, and you know he's a walking representation of "man, I wish life went back to those simpler times".

As a person who grew up watching viva la bam jackass etc, its mad to see the bam of today. The sadness in his eyes and the tremendous hurt from losing ryan dunn. Bam is lucky to have such an amazing caring mother who allowed her son to create amazing memories and is there for him. You can see the amount of love care and consideration she has for her son. It was also amazing to see bam skating at the end. 👊💯

He just using the Ryan thing as a excuse now. At 17 I woke up to find my friends dead body laying next to me too late to do anything. I got messed up on drugs and depressed then you start using it as a excuse to go deeper onto your shitty draggy life. I bet days go by he doesn't think about Ryan anymore. He just depressed and has addiction issues

I lost 3 of my closest friends in the space of a year, at 21 years old. All lost to violence. At some point it becomes a weak a$$ excuse. Yeah I'm sure both his parents love him, but he's a train wreck because no one ever told him no until he was already a manchild on a path to self destruction. That's not good parenting, and they had every reason to not be... the minute they actually checked him, no more checks for them.
