motW had a consistent core membership which consisted of Jason Byron, Greg Massi, and Toby Driver. Throughout motW's career, they saw a sort of "revolving door" of members and session musicians as they were needed. In this regard, it may be more accurate to think of motW as a project rather than a typical band, akin to Chuck Schuldiner's influential death metal project/band, Death.
motW's music, lyrics, and atmosphere dealt predominantly with the subject of astral projection. The band tried to find music rather than compose it. This was attempted through practicing astral projection and lucid dreams, from which the band were purportedly able to "bring back" pre-existing music from the astral plane. This idea is similar to the common dogmatic notion that "all good things come from God", but with a new-age spin.
In late 2001, motW began working on a fourth studio album. During this time, the band lost longtime members, changed labels, and ultimately renamed themselves to Kayo Dot. This fourth motW album was released in 2003 as Kayo Dot's Choirs of the Eye.
Bath and Leaving Your Body Map were re-issued by Dark Symphonies in 2006 and the label has recently announced plans to re-release My Fruit PsychoBells...A Seed Combustible in September 2007.
On July 27, 2008, Toby Driver released a statement in his blog which confirms that a new studio album will be recorded starting February, 2009. The album, entitled Part the Second, was released in May 2009 on the band's website. The record was entirely fan-funded, and people who contributed to the funding of the record are listed on their website. A double-LP edition pressed at 45rpm was issued in November 2010 thanks to fan donations.
In 2012, the bands whole discography was re-released on CD through Blood Music, including The Secret Song single and the first CD release of Part the Second.

The lyrics of "The Ocean the Kingdom and the Temptation" by maudlin of the Well paint a vivid picture of the singer's desire to escape the burdens of a suffering world and immerse themselves in the alluring depths of the sea. The seductive nature of the sea and its promise of a peaceful refuge from the struggles of life are depicted through the use of sensory details, such as the "moist hands" of the Lady Sea and the "most alluring blue" shades of the underwater kingdom. The singer's longing to be enveloped by the sea is reinforced by their rejection of the "poisonous air" of the world above and the idea that the "dry lungs of death shall burst" as they choose to embrace the water's embrace.
The song also touches upon themes of temptation and the loss of willpower in the face of sin. The singer acknowledges the maddening nature of the sea's depths and the delights of sin that lie within, illustrating the struggle between the desire for escape and the pressure to give in to worldly vices. The sea nymphs and their "formless might and splendour" are a source of enchantment that draw the singer further into temptation and away from the world above. The sorrowful tone of the lyrics is reinforced through the singer's farewell to the sun, stars, and wind, which are unable to provide the solace that the sea promises.

The rolling tide of a sea gone mad
Whispers in its undine seductive lullabye
And I want the Lady Sea's moist hands to cover me
The Kingdom and its watery shades of most alluring blue
Invite me in aquatic dreams to sleep
Inside her mighty womb
The dry lungs of Death shall burst
In the mighty depths, shadowed
As I fall below the light of sun
As the drudgery of mankind's sins
The sea, it calls unending to me
My sleep is hindered
The poisonous air in a suffering world
Is too great a burden to be had by me
The crushing weight of madding stage
The only delights in the arms of Sin
The Kingdom calls from far below
And my will to live is weakening
The sea nymphs glide through courseless heaven
Drawing me through to the formless might and
Splendour of castles glistening
The temples 'neath the churning waves that
Ever haunt my dreams
I bade farewell to the sun and stars and the wind
That calls in vernal song
For off I go to the land below and pray liquid
Fills me more than air I so reluctantly share
Off to the Kingdom that's flooded my dreams
And has been reflected in my saddened tears
