Roses
max Lyrics

Ooh ooh
Ooh ooh
Ooh ooh
Ooh ooh
Taking a tour of my old mans ways
His life is an all-you-can-eat buffet
Food for thought enough for days
Mediocre in the best ways
There's a lemon tree that's decades old
It barely makes any juice but it's still worth gold
Rough around the edges and hard to hold
When the earth crumbles at your feet, its roots take hold
Driving fast through stratosphere
So far away, the day's a year
Nothing we can do about it
Quicker, quicker don't loose speed
Hypersonic need
Don't look on the dash we could crash in a flash
There's a shitty car that shouldn't be on the road
With a certain nudge it goes into overload
It does what it needs and never gets towed
It's not taken care of but somehow still glows
In the garden there's a shed that's in a mess
It doesn't do much but stands nonetheless
I've tried to change it without much success
I've given up I must confess
Driving fast through stratosphere
So far away, the day's a year
Nothing we can do about it
Quicker, quicker don't loose speed
Hypersonic need
Don't look on the dash we could crash in a flash
You've got to understand to live now
Make now always the most precious time
Now will never come again
And if you're worried about pain and mistakes and consequences

Well I would gladly risk feeling bad at times if it also meant that I could
Taste my orange juice

Overall Meaning

In "Roses," Max sings about a love that has transitioned from mutual to one-sided. The verses describe how the singer's partner has moved on and is speeding away in their Honda, leaving the singer behind, alone and with their dreams falling apart. Max uses the imagery of driving off a cliff like Louise to convey the idea of surrendering to the unknown and breaking free. The chorus repeats the phrase "Pink Rose," which seems to serve as a metaphor for what Max is experiencing. Perhaps he is using it to represent beauty, growth, or even hope. The idea of climbing beneath the Pink Rose could be understood as doing something daring, trusting that things will be okay, and perhaps even that there will be beauty to behold.

The song is also about giving oneself over to another person, both figuratively and physically. Max sings about being "beneath" the Pink Rose, which could imply submission, or perhaps safety. The singer wishes to be with the Pink Rose, to touch the sky that they represent, whether that sky is blue or pink. The idea of growth and freedom is also evident in the lyrics, as Max implores the Pink Rose to "ride high, grow wild." In the end, the singer begs the Pink Rose to allow them to be near, to see the other side of the sky, and to be together.
