The band's first record, Fatboy (1992), established the band as a favorite of the same 1990s scene that became popular through bands such as the Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and Widespread Panic. moe. has toured with the 1997 Furthur Festival, appeared at Woodstock '99, have played in Central Park, were the opening band for The Allman Brothers and The Who, and performed at Radio City Music Hall on New Years Eve 2006 and 2007.
They also host the annual festival moe.down at Snow Ridge Ski Area in Turin, NY. Started in 2000, the festival runs for three days and occurs every Labor Day weekend. The festival has attracted a wide variety of musical talent. Acts range from newer bands just emerging onto the scene (such as Tea Leaf Green, Nellie McKay and Raq) to big name acts and jam rock staples, such as Les Claypool, Blues Traveler, and Mike Gordon (of Phish fame); to pop rock icons, such as Leo Kottke, The Flaming Lips, The Violent Femmes; and most recently, Perry Farrell. Each year, the amount of moe.down attendees has steadily increased. moe.down I attracted around 3,000 people while moe.down VI in 2005, had attracted close to 7,000.
During an interview, guitarist Al Schnier was asked to describe moe. for those who have never heard their music: "It's an amalgamation of a wide variety of the history of rock, all regurgitated and recycled through the eyes, ears, hands, whatever of the guys in our band and all of that with a sense of adventure, a sense of humor, also a constant desire to push the envelope. All in this arena of taking chances, improvising live, and making things up on the spot."

Checking my closets when I aint home
She's in the inbox photos in the labtop
Checking receipts and matching my john handcock
Instagram stalker, Facebook reader, follows me on twitter but really not a tweeter
She had me gas thinking she was a keeper
She took off the mask and I seen I couldn't keep her
I thought I had the perfect lady, nice slim jon known to be shady
See I'm living in the present but I'm dealing with her pass like
I'm tired off paying this nigga bills, Im trying to show you this nigga real
I'm tired of picking up the pieces, and cleaning up the milk that he spilted
You think Im Mr. Belvedere never dear, I'm a make this so ever clear
I never was never will ever be him, I never did never will die for his sins
I'm not black Jesus even though I just saved you and in the same token
Don't call me no Dr. Evil
I'm glad I'm getting off this ride cause its a suicide su suicide yo
I know she really Loves me, I know I know, I know she really cares
Man Im gotta to figure this out, I cant take too much crazy, yo shorty I'm out
I know she really Loves me, I know I know, I know she really cares
Man Im gotta to figure this out, I cant take too much crazy, yo shorty I'm out
I'm know I'm probably dealing with a crazy chick
But why am I dealing with this craziness
By far I shouldn't be dodging cars, I want trips to DR instead of the ER
Steve thought I was bugging, Keith thought I was bugging
Ern and James said he likes it then I love it
I'm thinking more of it
Im thinking its all my fault
I trying to escape this madness I'm running back to New York
She got me thinking that I"m safe now
I remembered that I had her on the speed dial
It came to me like a song I wrote
If I call her right now ya might as well hand me the rope
Man Im gone
I know she really Loves me, I know I know, I know she really cares
Man Im gotta to figure this out, I cant take too much crazy, yo shorty I'm out
I know she really Loves me, I know I know, I know she really cares
Man Im gotta to figure this out, I cant take too much crazy, yo shorty I'm out
I'm saying bye to everything not meant for me, bye
I'm changing all locks you could keep the key, bye
The price is off my head now I'm flying free, bye
You need the right spirit wanna fly with me, bye
I'm saying bye to all her insecurities, bye
I'm saying by to all of my security, bye
Saying bye to all of the alibis to and all of the silly lies, and even the side guy, yep
She had a dude warming the bench, and he only got play when he paid up her rent
Paid up the rent? Thats how far I'm a go
Cause thats all I'm a say cause they already know like
Can we have a Moment of silence please, sike I lied
I know she really Loves me, I know I know, I know she really cares
Man Im gotta to figure this out, I cant take too much crazy, yo shorty I'm out
I know she really Loves me, I know I know, I know she really cares
Man Im gotta to figure this out, I cant take too much crazy, yo shorty I'm out
The lyrics of moe.'s song "This I Know" delve into the complexities of a troubled relationship and the singer's struggle to deal with a partner who exhibits possessive and controlling behavior. The song begins with the singer acknowledging that his partner goes through his phone, checks his closets, and invades his privacy even when he's not home. She is described as an Instagram stalker, a Facebook reader, and a follower on Twitter, emphasizing her constant monitoring of his online activities. The singer initially believed he had found the perfect woman, but as their relationship progressed, he discovered her true nature and realized he couldn't keep her.
The second verse shifts the perspective to the partner, who appears to be addressing the singer. She expresses her frustration with taking care of someone else's bills and cleaning up after their mistakes. The singer asserts that he is not the person she expects him to be; he is not willing to sacrifice himself or be a savior figure for her. He emphasizes that he is not "Dr. Evil," indicating that he is not intentionally causing harm but rather trying to escape a toxic situation.
The chorus reinforces the singer's awareness of his partner's love and care, but he also acknowledges that he cannot handle the craziness anymore. He is determined to figure out a way to move on from this tumultuous relationship. The final verse highlights the singer's decision to say goodbye to everything that is not meant for him and to find freedom from the insecurities and lies that plagued their dynamic.
