Your fear
Your red button
Falls from my mouth
Slip
Your dress
Over your head
Move
On top
Because that way
You touch her too
Turn
Your head
Come back again
To here knows when
The lyrics to My Bloody Valentine's song "To Here Knows When" are cryptic and dreamlike, with abstract imagery and metaphorical language that invites interpretation. The first lines of the song are "Kiss/Your fear/Your red button/Falls from my mouth," suggesting the idea of the singer helping someone else confront their fears or anxieties. The "red button" may refer to a panic button or emergency stop, while the image of the button falling from the singer's mouth could indicate a cathartic release or confession.
The next lines, "Slip/Your dress/Over your head/It's been so long," continue the theme of release and letting go. The idea of taking off a dress could symbolize shedding one's outer layer, exposing vulnerability or revealing an inner self that has been concealed. The repetition of "It's been so long" implies a sense of distance or longing, as if the singer and the person being addressed have been apart for some time and are now reuniting.
"Move/On top/Because that way/You touch her too" is an ambiguous line that could be interpreted in various ways. It may be a physical instruction or a sexual invitation, but it could also be a metaphor for empowerment or equality in a relationship. The use of "her" instead of "me" or "you" adds another layer of complexity to the lyric, as it's unclear who is being referred to.
The final lines of the song, "Turn/Your head/Come back again/To here knows when," are enigmatic, but suggest a circular, cyclical structure to the song. The idea of "here knows when" invokes a timeless, eternal quality, as if the singer and the person being addressed are in a continual state of reunion and separation.
Overall, "To Here Knows When" is a song that invites interpretation and analysis, with its use of abstract imagery and metaphorical language. The lyrics convey a sense of longing, release, and cyclical movement, but leave much open to interpretation.

The 1st time I heard this track I was living in Sweden as a new immigrant. I was about to go to work in a factory (easy immigrant work). 4AM and my eyes and my mind were still tired as hell. I would have a quick breakfast and watch whatever was on TV so early in the morn with the volume super low to let my GF sleep. Barely alive and drooling, this video suddenly comes on on MTV and right away I'm transfixed and wide awake. For the rest of the day, all I could think about was this song. Wonderful

The band would almost always get only 2 hours of sleep a day recording Loveless. The dreamy vocals are mainly the result of singing in the studio right after they woke up. Your waking up to this is in harmony with the creators.

This is one of the few music videos that actually captures the vibe of the song rather than just portraying a random scenario like any other short film
