I just got back from seeing Sound of Freedom after not being in a movie theater in 8 years. There was a special message at the end of the credits from Jim Caviezel encouraging viewers to tell their friends about the movie and a QR code on screen if the viewer wanted to scan it to help pay for tickets for others to see it. In his words, he wanted us to help make Sound of Freedom the “Uncle Tom’s Cabin of 21st century slavery” and I think it could very well end up becoming that. As someone who has studied Mesoamerican civilizations (casually and professionally) since I was a kid, I can (and have) spent hours analytically tearing Apocalypto a new one for its manifold historical inaccuracies (not least of which was the ending). But at no time was "racism" a criticism that crossed my lips. Despite Mel Gibson's many, many failures, it's plain to see he at least tried, and his respect for the Maya peoples is obvious in every frame (to say nothing of the few things he unequivocally got right). Any suggestion that the arrival of Spanish forces at the end represented anything more than a shift in regional political power is nothing short of obtuse.

In retrospect, the media's insistence that the conquistadors were supposedly coming in to "civilize the savages" takes on an added level of malice, and raises serious questions about why the MSM went so hard in the paint in canceling Gibson. Did they know or suspect he would reveal the skeletons in Hollywood's closets? Did they suspect based on his decision to start his own production company free from direct Hollywood interference?

I saw the Sound of Freedom - it is clear that the media's portrayal of the film is either A) they didn't even see it or B) total dishonesty.

And they wonder why more and more people want to see it.

Sound of Freedom touched my heart like no movie ever has. I, unfortunately, have some experience with the human trafficking travesty. I was kidnapped when I was 6, but fortunate to come out physically unscathed, though the experience scarred me forever. I also have a cousin who disappeared when she was supposed to be delivered to her parents in El Paso. We're not 100% certain but believe she was trafficked by coyotes. This was in 2004 and we've believe her to be dead considering how long it has been.

I’m so sorry. Thank you for sharing your story. The reason I didn’t “believe” this for so long is because I figured there’d be thousands and thousands of families looking for the kids. I hope more stories of how this happened to real people can be shared.
